ROKETSU MARYLEBONE RELAUNCHES WITH A NEW KAPPO DINING EXPERIENCE THIS AUTUMN

Award-winning Japanese restaurant Roketsu Marylebone is set to begin an exciting new chapter this autumn, reopening on Monday 29th September with a refreshed concept that brings a modern expression of kappo-style dining to New Quebec Street, W1.

Known for its refined take on Japanese cuisine, Roketsu’s relaunch introduces a more interactive, personalised dining experience inspired by the traditional Japanese kappo philosophy — where conversation between chef and guest plays a central role in shaping the meal.

What Is Kappo Dining?

Kappo is a distinctive Japanese dining style built around dialogue, spontaneity and seasonality. Rather than following a rigid tasting menu, guests engage directly with the chefs, selecting dishes and shaping the flow of their courses based on personal taste.

At Roketsu, this approach has been carefully adapted for London diners. While the experience may resemble a set menu, no two visits are ever the same — guests effectively curate their own journey, guided by the chefs and the day’s best ingredients.

This commitment to interaction and individuality lies at the heart of kappo and defines Roketsu’s renewed vision.

A Seasonal, Ever-Changing Menu

Menus at Roketsu are crafted daily, responding to the changing seasons and the finest meat, fish and vegetables sourced each morning. The result is food that is understated in presentation yet layered with depth and precision.

Roketsu 2.0: The Food

The new menu is organised into sections including raw, grilled, sushi and tempura, allowing guests to mix and match dishes to suit their appetite. Cooking over bincho charcoal and straw fire adds both flavour and theatre to the experience.

Highlights from the menu include:

  • Miso Monaka – crisp wafers filled with 10-day miso-marinated foie gras (£12)

  • Cornish Crab Chawanmushi – steamed egg custard with crab and dashi (£12)

  • Mushroom Forest – sautéed and chargrilled Japanese mushrooms (£13)

  • Hamachi Yuzu – yellowtail slices with yuzu sauce (£12)

Sushi lovers can enjoy premium nigiri such as:

  • Wagyu Sukiyaki Gunkan with egg yolk (£12)

  • Otoro Tartare Gunkan topped with caviar (£33)

  • Ibushi Chalk Stream Trout smoked with wara (£13)

From the grill, standout dishes include Cornish white fish with nori sauce and Japanese-style risotto (£28) and Japanese Wagyu beef with yuzu oroshi (£48).

Roketsu continues its dedication to responsible sourcing, working closely with Cornish fishermen who supply ikejime-prepared fish, alongside carefully selected artisanal ingredients from Japan.

A New Look and Feel

The restaurant’s interior has also been reimagined. The ground floor now features a striking seven-metre hinoki counter, complemented by new table seating, offering multiple ways to experience kappo — whether engaging directly with the chefs or enjoying a more social meal.

A relaxed lower-ground dining space has been introduced, alongside a private room for up to eight guests, ideal for business meetings or intimate celebrations.

The redesign is led by Kyoto master builder Sotoji Nakamura, renowned for his work rooted in the sukiya tradition of Japanese architecture. Natural materials such as hinoki, chestnut and cedar create a serene atmosphere that will continue to evolve as the wood matures.

Drinks: Wine and Sake at Their Finest

Drinks play a central role in Roketsu’s new direction. Guests can explore a global wine list of over 500 bottles, including prestigious Burgundy producers and an impressive vertical of Mouton-Rothschild spanning from 1968 to the mid-2000s.

Champagne lovers will find both iconic grande maison selections and exciting grower Champagnes, while sake enthusiasts can choose from all 47 official classic Japanese sake regions, from Hokkaido to Okinawa — making it one of the most comprehensive sake lists in London.

Expert wine and sake pairings are available to complement every meal.
