PAPA JOHNS ‘FATHER OF JACK’ HOAX REVEALS NEW SOURDOUGH PIZZA RANGE THAT FOOLED LONDON FOODIES!

In an age where viral hype can make or break a restaurant overnight, Papa Johns has pulled off one of the UK’s most surprising food stunts—creating a restaurant that never actually existed.

Earlier this week, a mysterious pizza spot named “Father of Jack” appeared online, claiming to be opening in East London. Within hours, thousands of curious diners rushed to book a table, eager to try what many believed was the capital’s next must-visit food destination.

Early “customers” were quick to rave about the quality, with glowing reviews praising the flavour, texture, and premium ingredients of the pizzas. But in a twist that caught everyone off guard, it was revealed that Father of Jack wasn’t real at all.

Instead, the pizzas being served were part of Papa Johns’ brand-new sourdough range—disguised in a bold blind taste test designed to challenge the nation’s pizza snobbery.

The Rise of Sourdough Pizza in the UK

The stunt taps into a growing shift in British dining habits. While classic Italian-style pizzas remain the top choice for 33% of Brits, sourdough and hand-stretched bases are quickly gaining traction, with 27% now opting for more artisanal styles.

At the same time, pizza has become one of the most scrutinised foods in the UK. Around 35% of people admit they are highly critical of it when dining out, while half say it’s the dish they judge the most overall.

This makes it the perfect testing ground for a social experiment—especially in a culture where 60% of people say they’ve visited a restaurant purely based on social media recommendations.

Challenging Food Hype Culture

The “Father of Jack” concept was designed to strip away branding, reputation, and online buzz, forcing people to judge the product purely on taste.

Rebecca Carroll, Marketing Director at Papa Johns, explained that the campaign was rooted in the brand’s long-standing ethos of quality and innovation.

“Better Ingredients, Better Pizza has always been our north star…With ‘Father of Jack’, we’re reminding people that great pizza shouldn’t be about hype or long queues—it should be about flavour and quality.”

The sourdough range itself reflects this philosophy. Developed over two years and more than 50 recipe iterations, each pizza is made using a real aged sourdough culture, fermented for up to 11 days. The result is a light, airy base with a subtle tang and crisp crust—without artificial additives.

What Diners Had to Say

Despite not knowing the true source of their slices, diners were overwhelmingly impressed.

London-based tasters praised the “perfectly chewy yet crispy crust” and highlighted the freshness of ingredients like Fior di Latte mozzarella and spicy nduja. One diner even went as far as calling it “London’s new top pizza spot.”

Food influencer Toby Inskip (Eating with Tod) summed up the experience:

“This was the ultimate blind taste test—it showed that when it comes to the perfect slice, the only thing that really matters is how it tastes.”

When Can You Try It?

Following the reveal, Papa Johns has confirmed that its new sourdough pizza range will launch nationwide from 14 April, with prices starting from £15.

For those who missed out on the “Father of Jack” experience, this is your chance to try the same pizzas that had Londoners completely fooled—no hype required.
