“CHEERS, LOVE! THE CAVALRY’S HERE!” | FORTNITE X OVERWATCH UPDATE ADDS TRACER, MERCY, GENJI AND D.VA TO BATTLE ROYALE!

Epic Games has officially launched the long-rumoured Fortnite x Overwatch crossover as part of the new v40.40 update, introducing iconic heroes, fresh map locations, themed weapons and major gameplay changes across Battle Royale and Zero Build.

The latest crossover sees characters from Overwatch join the world of Fortnite in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest gaming collaborations of 2026.

Players can now explore Overwatch-inspired locations across the island, recruit familiar heroes as allies and unlock exclusive cosmetics through the in-game shop.

Overwatch Locations Have Arrived in Fortnite

As part of Act III of Fortnite’s Showdown event, several classic Overwatch-inspired areas are now live on the Battle Royale map.

New additions include:

  • Busan Sanctuary
  • Hanamura Courtyard
  • King’s Row Tower
  • Bases inspired by Watchpoint: Gibraltar

One of the standout gameplay additions is the Payload event at King’s Row Tower. During matches, players can escort the Payload once it unlocks to earn exclusive Overwatch loot rewards.

Tracer’s Pulse Pistols and Mercy’s Caduceus Staff Explained

The collaboration is not just cosmetic. Epic Games has added signature Overwatch-themed weapons and abilities directly into gameplay.

Tracer’s Pulse Pistols

Tracer’s famous dual pistols allow players to:

  • Enter first-person combat
  • Blink short distances
  • Use Recall to rewind to a previous position and undo recent damage

Mercy’s Caduceus Staff

Mercy’s healing staff introduces support-style gameplay by allowing players to:

  • Heal teammates with a beam lock
  • Restore health and shields
  • Glide through the air while equipped

The weapons are now available across Battle Royale and other Fortnite modes as part of the v40.40 update.

Fortnite Shop Adds Overwatch Skins and Porsche Bundle

Starting May 14, players can purchase new skins based on four legendary Overwatch heroes:

  • Tracer
  • Mercy
  • Genji
  • D.Va

Each outfit includes matching accessories and LEGO Styles, continuing Fortnite’s growing integration with LEGO Fortnite experiences.

Epic Games has also released a special Overwatch-themed Porsche Cayenne EV bundle featuring four custom decals and exclusive wheels.

Major Zero Build Changes Included in v40.40

Beyond the crossover itself, Fortnite’s v40.40 update also introduces a significant overhaul to Zero Build mode.

Community reactions online suggest the update changes movement systems, stamina mechanics and fall damage behaviour, potentially reshaping the current Zero Build meta.

Epic Games says additional fixes, balancing updates and gameplay improvements are included across Reload, Blitz and other Fortnite modes.

Fortnite x Overwatch Community Reactions

The crossover has already generated major excitement across gaming communities, with many players calling it one of Fortnite’s most ambitious collaborations to date.

Reddit users have praised the inclusion of gameplay mechanics and map integrations rather than simple cosmetic skins, while others noted the collaboration arrives during Overwatch’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
