OUTBACK BBQ BRINGS LATIN-INSPIRED SMOKEHOUSE FLAVOUR TO VICTORIA PARK’S THE HAWKE PUB

London’s barbecue scene just got a whole lot hotter. Outback BBQ — the Latin-inspired smokehouse renowned for its whole-animal butchery and flame-led cooking — has officially launched its first long-term kitchen residency at The Hawke Pub in Victoria Park.

Fire, Flavour, and Latin Soul

Helmed by rising London chef Lewis Simmons, Outback BBQ blends the rustic asado and parrilla traditions of Argentina with the smoky street-food energy of Mexican taquerias — all reimagined for a modern London crowd.

The move follows a string of successful pop-ups at local favourites including JAZU in Deptford, The Montpelier in Peckham, and The Great Beyond Brewery in Shoreditch. Before founding Outback BBQ, Simmons honed his craft under acclaimed pitmasters Martin Anderson and Curtis Bell of London’s From the Ashes BBQ.

A Celebration of Open-Fire Cooking

Drawing inspiration from his travels through California’s taquerias, Simmons’ philosophy celebrates the primal energy of fire and the sense of community it creates. Each dish is slow-cooked with care, using traditional techniques to unlock deep, smoky flavours.

Outback BBQ partners with local suppliers for rare meat cuts and fresh fish, including Jonny Norris, Victoria Park Village’s much-loved fishmonger. Whether it’s smoking cream for desserts or slow-smoking pork belly for seven hours, every element is crafted over open flame for depth and authenticity.

Must-Try Dishes

Menu highlights include the smoked lamb birria taco, braised in chillies, onion, tomato beer, and spices, and finished with an Italian-inspired salsa verde. Other standout plates feature:

  • Seven-hour smoked pork belly ribs with hot honey, grilled seasonal fruit and chilli pickles

  • Cuban-style mojo pollo with citrus and garlic

  • Smoky burnt corn ensalada bursting with charred sweetness

  • A signature dessert described as “the love child of banana pudding and Basque cheesecake.”

Weekend visitors can expect premium steak cuts, fish specials, and traditional smoked roasts with seasonal cobblers for dessert. During the week (Wednesday–Thursday), a more compact menu offers great-value deals and rotating taco specials.

Drinks, Deals, and Atmosphere

The drinks list keeps the vibe casual yet refined — think craft beers, curated wines, premium spirits, and the now-iconic house Bloody Mary. Prices range from £5–8 for snacks and sides, £15–25 for mains, and £8 for desserts, with sharing platters available for under £50.

Outback BBQ at The Hawke Pub is now open — bringing Latin smokehouse flair to one of East London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.
