New Balance is giving fans an exclusive look into the design evolution of its latest footwear innovation, the ABZORB 2000. In a new video campaign, Design Manager Charlotte Lee shares the creative journey behind the model, highlighting how archival inspiration and cutting-edge technology merged to create the next generation of ABZORB cushioning.
From Archive to Innovation
Several of New Balance’s most iconic lifestyle models—from the reissued running-inspired 1906R and 530 to the experimental 1906 Loafer—have prominently featured the signature ABZORB sole unit. For the ABZORB 2000, Lee drew on Y2K aesthetics and personal memories of early 2000s fashion, infusing the design with a modern twist.
Unlike traditional methods, Lee embraced digital tools, using VR programming to bring her ideas to life instead of pencil-and-paper sketches. The campaign video offers a rare glimpse into this creative process, showing how a single sticky-note sketch can evolve into a detailed 3D render of the sole, reflecting both heritage and innovation.
“The process of looking back created the foundation of ABZORB,” Lee explains. “But this is where we look to the next generation. And this is ABZORB 2000.”
A Statement in Design and Function
The ABZORB 2000 combines full-length ABZORB cushioning with ABZORB SBS pods, offering both functional support and visual flair. The model is designed to bridge New Balance’s storied past with a forward-thinking approach, making it a standout addition to the brand’s lineup.
New colourways, including the Silver Metallic/Faded Black, will be available on NewBalance.com and select retailers starting February 2026 at £170.
