A symbolic milestone in its legacy, the MC20 has returned Maserati to a stage where it has always starred – that of Supercars combining luxury and performance with the unique Maserati style. And it’s gone back to its Italian roots to do so.
First of its kind in design, specs, and innovation, the M20 is a car that’s built to stun. Designed in Modena and produced at the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant, adjacent to the birthplace of the brand itself, Italian essence saturates its every detail, from its engine to its aesthetic. Naturally, some of the most iconic Italian excellences in the sector have been chosen as partners for the MC20 to elevate the car as one for the ages, ensuring that the language has been sewn into every stage of its conception:
Alcantrara is a unique material produced using proprietary technology in the hills of Umbra in the heart of Italy, covering the planet’s most glamorous surfaces, including cabins, luxury yatchs, personal devices, and even artworks. It’s breathable, wear-resistent, and lightweight, and thanks to its immense versatility, Maserati has leveraged this to customise car seats and door panels with colours and finishes individually and deliberately for each unit. The MC20 boasts laser-perforated black Alcantara, with a gradually decreasing gap between lines of perforations, on a contrasting backing in dark blue or metallic grey – a combination of elegance and incredible craftsmanship.
Brembo is a world leader in the design and production of braking systems, and supplies the entire system for the MC20. The front is stopped by Brembo radial mounted monobloc 6-piston brake calipers, converging on 390 x 36mm Brembo CCM (carbon ceramic material) brake discs to offer superior stopping power. At the rear, the Brembo 4-piston monobloc brake calipers grab onto 360 x 28mm Brembo CCM brake discs. The monobloc calipers are machined from a single block of cast aluminium to ensure maximum rigidity and less deformation. The CCM offers 50% reduction in weight compared to cast iron, meaning significant reduction in unsprung mass, and therefore exceptional vehicle dynamic behaviour when driving and remarkable comfort when cruising.
Sonus Faber, founded in Vicenza, embodies the transation of its name, ‘handmade sound’. It creates luxury audio systems through pairing innovative technology with skilful craftsmanship for a refined, impactful result. As of time of production, the MC20 was the only model outfitted with a Sonus Faber premium audio system, featuring a high performing amplifier with 695 Watts of power and 12 speakers with specific functionalities that deliver Sonus faber’s natural sound through the use of natural materials such as high quality silk.
Dallara and Maserati symbolise Italy’s Motor Valley, striving to grow professional competences in the industry and ensure Italian cars remain at the forefront of the industry. Dallara’s expertise is in design, in particular carbon fibre composites, aerodynamics (with the aid of its wind tubbel and computational fluid dynamics), vehicle dynamics (supported by simulators and dynamic test beds), and fast, flexible, and high-quality prototype construction. The MC20’s aerodynamic components were designed and developed by Dallara, as well as its entire monocoque, and its carbon fibre structure.
The MC20’s seats were conceived through a collaboration with Sabelt, and were fully developed, tested, and manufactured in Italy – focussing on comfort with a sports DNA. It is the first Maserati seat with a high performance composite structural shell, equipped with power adjustments and lumbar system. The seats are fully customisable, with options for logos, stitching, and materials for individualism in each unit.
It is clear that the MC20 is a true Italian native, heavily anchored in its roots. However, the model also overwhelmingly exhibits the further-reaching forward-thinking that is meticulously sewn into the fabric of the Maserati brand, embodying the ‘car of the future’ mentality down to the last detail. The MC20 has mind-blowing aerodynamic efficiency, with best-in-class weight/power ratio. Its superb looks conceal an uncompromisingly sporty soul, with the new 630 horsepower V6 Nettuno engine that delivers 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2,88” and a top speed over 326 km an hour. A patented, 100% Maserati engine, benefiting from the MTC (Maserati Twin Combustion) technology, the innovative combustion system developed by the Brand, evolved from the pre-chamber technology used on Formula 1 powertrains. Conceived, designed, and built entirely in-house.
The MC20 showcases numerous other stand-out features – more than just its incredible new colourways and striking butterfly doors. There’s constant connectivity via the new Maserati Connect program; a digital rear-view mirror; a superb sport steering wheel and adjustable suspension; a number of versatile driving modes, including CORSA Mode which offers drivers the most extreme experience; the list goes on. The model concurrently demonstrates top-spec practicality, flawless elegance, and sports excellence – all while retaining the historical authenticity and exclusivity that is synonymous with the Maserati name.
