LUCKY BOAT TEAMS UP WITH CHIN AND CHOO FOR EXCLUSIVE CHINA STAR DINNER TAKEOVER IN EDINBURGH!

Edinburgh food lovers are being invited to experience a special evening of authentic Chinese cuisine as Lucky Boat Noodles joins forces with chef and influencer duo Chin and his mum Choo for a one-night-only dinner takeover at China Star.

Taking place on Monday 1st June from 6pm to 9pm, the exclusive event will see Chin and Choo step into the kitchen of the much-loved family-run restaurant to serve a limited-edition dish alongside some of China Star’s most popular menu favourites.

The collaboration shines a spotlight on independent Chinese restaurants across the UK while celebrating the enduring legacy of China Star, a longstanding Edinburgh takeaway and restaurant that has become a local favourite.

A community-focused celebration of Chinese food culture

The special event comes amid growing public attention around the story of China Star and the family behind it, with daughter Lisa He helping to lead the next chapter of the business alongside her mother Sophie.

In a show of community support, every pound of profit generated from the pop-up event will go directly back to China Star. Organisers hope the evening will encourage diners to continue supporting local Chinese restaurants and takeaways while showcasing the people behind these much-loved establishments.

Lisa He said:

“China Star has been part of our lives for as long as I can remember, and my mum has always poured her heart into the restaurant. This event gives us even more joy and encouragement. We’re incredibly grateful to Lucky Boat and to Chin and his mum Choo for joining us with such warmth and generosity.”

Chin and Choo’s exclusive chow mein takes centre stage

Guests attending the takeover can expect a lively atmosphere as Chin and Choo prepare their signature dish, ‘Chin and Choo’s Chow Mein’, live from the China Star kitchen.

Alongside the limited-edition chow mein, diners will also be able to enjoy several of China Star’s most popular dishes, including:

Menu Highlights

  • Chin and Choo’s Chow Mein (exclusive limited-edition dish)
  • Beef in Black Bean Sauce
  • Salt and Chilli Chicken or Tofu
  • Sweet and Sour Chicken
  • Additional sides

While Chin and Choo take charge of the kitchen, Lisa and Sophie will be welcoming guests throughout the evening, creating a family-focused dining experience that celebrates authentic Chinese hospitality.

Supporting local restaurants through food

Speaking about the collaboration, Chin explained why the event was important to the team:

“As soon as we heard China Star’s story, we knew we wanted to help celebrate what this restaurant represents. Lucky Boat is all about real food, real people and real community – and that’s exactly what China Star embodies. We want to bring some joy, share great food, and remind people why places like this matter.”

The event reflects a growing movement to champion independent food businesses and recognise the cultural contribution of family-run restaurants throughout the UK.
