LONDON’S HOTTEST SPICY NOODLES LAND ON THE STRAND WITH LIU XIAOMIAN X THE STRANDED

London’s noodle scene is about to get even hotter. Liu Xiaomian, the cult-favourite Chongqing noodle brand, is bringing its fiery flavours to The Stranded — a brand-new pub on The Strand — and they’re kicking things off in true lucky Chinese style: the first 66 bowls will be free when doors open on Friday, 14th November (a date also considered particularly lucky in the Chinese Yellow Calendar).

From Street Stall to Cult Sensation

Founded by Charlene Liu and Linda Liu, both from Chongqing, China’s spice capital, Liu Xiaomian began as a humble street-food stall in 2017. United by a love of bold, authentic flavours, the duo quickly captured the hearts (and taste buds) of Londoners. Their flagship restaurant in Kingly Court, Carnaby, opened in 2024 and was praised by The Times for bringing “heat, heart and serious flavour” to the capital’s dining scene.

What’s on the Menu?

The pop-up at The Stranded features Liu Xiaomian’s signature dishes:

  • Chongqing Xiaomian (重庆小面) – classic wheat noodles packed with heat and umami

  • Hot & Sour Glass Noodles (酸辣粉) – chewy sweet potato starch noodles with tangy depth

  • Silky Pork Wontons (老麻抄手) – delicate dumplings bathed in addictive chilli oil

  • Cucumber Salad – a refreshing, spicy side beloved by regulars

There’s something for everyone, from flavourful vegan options to Minced Pork & Chickpea noodles, all crowned with Liu Xiaomian’s famous homemade chilli oil.

A New Home: The Stranded

Located just minutes from Charing Cross Station, The Stranded is the latest venture from the team behind Marylebone’s The Jackalope. The stylish pub seats up to 300 guests, featuring a 20-cover Liu Xiaomian dining space where fiery noodles meet frothy pints. Expect Czech beer on tap, in-house bubble tea, and even a coffee robot in the works — the first of its kind in the area.

“The Stranded feels like the perfect next step,” says co-founder Charlene Liu. “It’s central, stylish, and full of warmth — exactly what we want for our guests this winter.”

Adds Linda Liu: “Our noodles are all about comfort, freshness, and community. Whether you like it mild or extra hot, we’ve got a bowl for you.”
