The original PlayStation is getting a nostalgic LEGO makeover, complete with a brick-built controller, working buttons and hidden Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas.
Gaming nostalgia is getting a brick-built upgrade as LEGO and PlayStation have unveiled the first-ever LEGO PlayStation set, recreating the iconic original console and controller in an impressive 1,911-piece display model.
Revealed during PlayStation’s latest State of Play broadcast, the LEGO PlayStation (72306) is designed for adult builders and brings one of the most recognisable consoles of the 1990s to life in LEGO form.

A LEGO Tribute to the Original PlayStation
For anyone who grew up with the original PlayStation, the new set is packed with familiar details.
The near 1:1-scale replica recreates the distinctive grey console, measuring more than 6cm high, 26cm wide and 19cm deep. The model also includes the original PlayStation controller, which can be plugged directly into the console.
Adding an extra layer of interactivity, the LEGO PlayStation features functional Open and Power buttons, allowing fans to recreate some of the familiar rituals of firing up the classic console.
The result is less of a traditional LEGO toy and more of a nostalgic display piece aimed at adult gamers and collectors.
Hidden Gaming Easter Eggs
Perhaps the most exciting feature is hidden inside the console itself.
Open up the LEGO PlayStation and you’ll discover two miniature buildable dioramas inspired by classic PlayStation games: Gran Turismo and Ape Escape.
The Gran Turismo section features a tiny racing track complete with miniature cars, while the Ape Escape diorama includes the game’s instantly recognisable red or blue monkey helmet.
The dioramas can be tucked away inside the console when not in use or removed and displayed alongside the main model, giving builders plenty of options for showing off the finished set.

A Must-Have for Retro Gaming Fans?
The LEGO PlayStation arrives at an interesting time for gaming nostalgia, combining the popularity of collectible LEGO sets with one of the most influential consoles ever released.
Rather than simply recreating the hardware, LEGO has incorporated interactive elements and references to PlayStation history, making the set particularly appealing to fans who remember playing the original Gran Turismo, Ape Escape and countless other PS1 classics.
It’s also the latest addition to LEGO’s growing collection of gaming-inspired builds. You can explore more LEGO coverage in Verge Magazine’s LEGO archive.
With its compact dimensions, classic grey design and hidden gaming references, the LEGO PlayStation could be the perfect centrepiece for a retro gaming setup — although at £139.99, fans will need to decide whether their nostalgia is worth the investment.
The LEGO PlayStation (72306) will be available from 1 October for LEGO Insiders and from 4 October 2026 for everyone, via LEGO.com, LEGO Stores and select retailers.
