A new chapter in London’s luxury dining scene has arrived. Automat, now open at 127 Mount Street, introduces a refined American dining concept to the heart of Mayfair, blending nostalgic mid-century influences with contemporary polish. Led by One Luxury Group, the restaurant reimagines early and mid-20th-century American dining culture through a distinctly modern and elegant lens.
Originally an upscale American diner on Dover Street, the first incarnation of Automat became a cultural phenomenon — a vibrant meeting point for New York glamour, late-night indulgence and London’s creative elite. Following its closure, the iconic venue reopened in late 2025 under entirely new ownership, unveiling an elevated vision designed for today’s discerning diners.
A Discreet Mayfair Arrival
Automat offers one of Mayfair’s most intriguing arrivals. Guests enter discreetly through the doors of heritage luxury leather goods brand Tanner Krolle, creating a speakeasy-style experience that feels both intimate and exclusive. Nestled within one of London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, Automat joins an illustrious list of nearby dining institutions, including The Connaught, Scott’s, Harry’s Bar and Annabel’s.
The restaurant’s story is deeply connected to its location. Inspiration traces back to Frederick Krolle, founder of Tanner Krolle in 1856, whose passion for dining and social culture was passed down through generations. As the family business expanded to the US, they discovered and fell in love with New York’s automats — a fascination that now comes full circle in Mayfair.
Elevated American Comfort Food
Automat’s menu balances nostalgia with modern culinary technique, reinterpreting classic American comfort dishes with precision and Mayfair refinement. Highlights include the Automat Burger with homemade fries, a Lobster Roll dressed in brown butter and lemon over crisp cos lettuce, and the comforting Automat Chicken Pie served with sweet potato mash. Steak Tartare with Dijon mustard and homemade crisps adds a refined edge, while desserts channel familiar American flavours with a sophisticated twist.
Cocktails, Wine and Classic American Spirits
The cocktail menu celebrates timeless American classics, from expertly executed Dirty Martinis to perfectly balanced Old Fashioneds, alongside signature creations. Standouts include Velvet Hour, blending vodka, cranberry juice, crème de pêche and lemon, and the refreshing Green Mezcalita with parsley, cucumber and jalapeño cordial.
A carefully curated wine list complements the menu, featuring international selections from Burgundy, Tuscany, and a refined offering of American wines, ensuring thoughtful pairings across the dining experience.
Interiors with Old-World Charm
Designed by London-based Tomèf Studio, led by Tommaso Franchi, Automat’s interiors evoke a “fine diner” atmosphere. Sensuous lighting, classic tableware and elegant detailing create a space rooted in old-world charm while maintaining contemporary finesse. With just 58 covers on the ground floor, the restaurant feels intentionally intimate — a calm retreat from Mount Street’s bustle.
Service reflects the warmth of classic American hospitality, delivered with the precision expected of London’s luxury dining scene. Music is curated by Chloé Caillet, adding to the restaurant’s refined yet relaxed ambiance.
What’s Next for Automat
Looking ahead to 2026, Automat will unveil a hidden lower-ground Sporting Club, designed as a members-style dining space for Mayfair insiders. Featuring vintage sporting memorabilia, atmospheric lighting and a central viewing screen, the 24-cover space will host major games, private gatherings and cultural moments.
The restaurant will also introduce its invitation-only Supper Club, offering members guaranteed reservations within 24 hours, access to exclusive dinners and events, and a dedicated WhatsApp concierge. The concept revives the social spirit that made the original Automat a magnet for London’s creative and media worlds. Silent partners include globally recognised athletes, artists and cultural icons, all set to play a role in upcoming activations.
