In a world where switching off is becoming increasingly difficult, new research from Hyundai has revealed that many Brits are finding peace and quiet in an unexpected place — their car.
According to the study, 26% of Brits get fewer than 10 minutes to themselves each day, highlighting the growing need for moments of calm amid busy schedules. In response, Hyundai is launching a unique London pop-up experience called Spa in a Car, transforming its flagship all-electric SUV, the Hyundai IONIQ 9, into a relaxing Korean wellness retreat.
The one-day-only activation will take place at St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square on Thursday 11 June.
Brits Are Using Their Cars as a Place to Relax
Hyundai’s research found that 82% of Brits admit to sitting parked for a few extra minutes just to enjoy some peace and quiet, while 55% say the car is one of the only places they can truly switch off from everyday pressures.
The survey also revealed:
- 49% sit in the car before going inside for a moment alone
- 57% use the car to sing loudly without judgement
- 43% say driving helps clear their mind when stressed
- 62% associate cars with nostalgia and comforting memories
- 70% view car journeys as valuable family time
For parents, the car is also closely linked with family routines, with 73% admitting they’ve driven children around specifically to help them fall asleep.

What Is Hyundai’s ‘Spa in a Car’ Experience?
The immersive wellness event will allow visitors to step inside the spacious Hyundai IONIQ 9 for a complimentary 20-minute Korean-inspired spa treatment guided by professional K-beauty therapists.
Treatments include:
- Korean head, neck and shoulder massages
- Korean facial massages
- Guided relaxation experiences designed to reduce stress
The collaboration also brings authentic Korean wellness culture to London thanks to partnership with Fine Clinic London.
Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai and Genesis UK, said the experience was created to give people “a moment to themselves” in an increasingly hectic world.
Meanwhile, Yeany Kim, Director of Fine Clinic London, described the activation as a fresh way of bringing Korean beauty and wellness traditions directly into the city.
