HOODWOOD IS GIVING AWAY FREE JERK JACKET POTATOES IN EXCHANGE FOR WINTER COATS THIS JANUARY

London’s Caribbean food scene is getting a heart-warming boost this winter as Hoodwood, the cult-favourite takeaway on Kentish Town Road, launches a feel-good initiative combining comfort food with community support.

From 12–31 January, Hoodwood is giving away free Jerk Jacket Potatoes to customers who donate a winter jacket or coat in good condition. The donated clothing will be passed on to homelessness and community charities across London, helping to keep those most in need warm during the coldest months of the year.

Founded by renowned restaurateur Omar Shah, Hoodwood is known for its bold Caribbean flavours and street-food-inspired dishes — and its latest campaign is all about giving back.

A New Caribbean Comfort Food Menu

The jacket giveaway also marks the launch of Hoodwood’s brand-new Jacket Potato range, available from 12 January, bringing a Caribbean twist to a British classic.

The menu includes three indulgent options:

  • The Jerk Jacket (£13)
A seasoned, oven-baked jacket potato brushed with rich jerk butter and all-purpose seasoning, layered with melted cheese and topped with oak-smoked jerk chicken. Finished with jerk gravy, smooth white sauce, crispy onions and fresh chives.
This dish can be redeemed for free when donating a jacket.

  • The Oxtail Butter Bean Jacket (£15)
A comforting oven-baked jacket potato brushed with butter and smothered in a rich oxtail butter bean stew.

  • The Chickpea Callaloo Jacket (£12)
A vegetarian-friendly option featuring a fluffy baked potato topped with vegetable chickpea callaloo.

Customers can exchange one jacket per person during the campaign, but the Jerk Jacket — along with the full jacket potato range — will also be available to purchase throughout January.

Food That Gives Back

Speaking on the initiative, founder Omar Shah said:

“January can be a tough month for a lot of people, so we wanted to do something that brings comfort in more ways than one. Our new Jacket Potatoes are proper Caribbean comfort food, and by exchanging a Jerk Jacket for a real jacket, we can help keep people warm across London while sharing what we love most — food that brings people together.”

With rising temperatures inside and out, Hoodwood’s coat-for-carbs scheme is a timely reminder that food can be a powerful force for good.

If you’re looking for London food deals, new January offers, or simply a great excuse to clear out your wardrobe, this is one initiative worth supporting.
