With new research revealing the nation’s most common faux pas when it comes to mobile TV streaming in public, EE has joined forces with Samsung and TV personality and DJ, Woody Cook to provide top tips and advice to avoid the most common bloopers. The research comes as the UK’s best network offers inclusive Netflix and TNT Sport memberships on selected plans with the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 smartphones.
With 39% of Brits now streaming TV on-the-go up to four times a week, and a further 37% claiming that it makes their commutes go quicker – EE has revealed that Brits are still prone to a blunder or two when it comes to consuming content in public, and that streaming when out-and-about isn’t as straightforward as many would think.
The new findings highlight the pitfalls of mobile streaming in public, with nearly half (46%) of Brits claiming that they’ve seen a TV or movie spoiler by taking a sneak peek at someone else’s screen, and nearly a fifth (18%) admitting they’ve previously missed their stop on public transport as they’ve been overly engrossed in one of their favourite shows.
Not only this, but 1 in 5 Brits have even admitted to hastily covering their phone screen out of embarrassment due to watching a questionable scene, with 13% conceding that they’ve been so moved that they’ve have ended up crying in public due to the content they’ve been watching.
According to research, Britain’s top 10 mobile streaming faux pas are:
- Laughing out loud at a show in public
- Forgetting to download your show before going on public transport
- Having a sports result ruined by looking at someone else’s screen
- Playing content out loud in a public place
- Dropping phone whilst streaming
- Over celebrating a goal or big moment in sport whilst on-the-go
- Seeing a spoiler on somebody else’s screen
- Accidentally bumping into someone whilst glued to your screen
- Starting an unwanted conversation with someone because they’re watching a show you like
- Accidentally spoiling a series for someone else
The research coincides with EE announcing consumers can now order Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones, the new Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5, on the UK’s number one network. Those taking out a handset on an EE All Rounder plan or above will be able to choose between a Netflix Basic or TNT Sports subscription worth up to £480 as an Inclusive Extra.
Customers will be able to make the most of viewing premium content with the Galaxy Z Flip5’s foldable large screen that’s perfect for enjoying TV on-the-move – as well as being able to watch for longer than ever before using the Galaxy Z Fold5’s enhanced battery performance and cooling technology – all supported by the UK’s number one 5G network on EE.
To help the nation master mobile streaming etiquette, EE has teamed up with TV personality and DJ Woody Cook, to release a top tip video guide that helps conquer some of the most common streaming bloopers experienced by Brits, as over 1 in 4 (26%) state they’d benefit from advice on how to stream properly in public. Woody’s top three tips are:
- If it’s not your phone, stay out the zone – make sure you’re not peeping at other screens and try and avoid spoilers!
- Don’t become so locked in that your reaction becomes a distraction – even if you’re watching your favourite sitcom episode, make sure to keep the cackling down a notch – otherwise you might look like a laughing lunatic on the bus
- Stay switched on – try not to get too caught up in what you’re watching and make sure you’re staying alert… you don’t want to miss your stop!
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 are available now, with new and upgrading customers able to save up to £240 on the handsets as well as an additional saving of up to £720 when trading in any old Samsung phone in any condition.
