DISNEY+ BECOMES GLOBAL STREAMING HOME OF FORMULA E AHEAD OF GEN4 ERA!

Formula E is heading to Disney+ as part of a landmark multi-year deal that will bring every race weekend live to viewers across 144 territories from the 2026/27 season.

Formula E is set for a major streaming shake-up, with Disney+ announced as the global streaming home of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the start of the 2026/27 season.

The multi-year agreement between Formula E, Disney+ and ESPN will see every Formula E race weekend streamed live across 144 territories, including the United States, where coverage will also be available on ESPN+.

The deal arrives at a particularly significant moment for the all-electric championship, coinciding with the arrival of the new GEN4 era and a major evolution in Formula E’s on-track performance and race weekend format.

Every Formula E Session Will Be Available Live

Under the new agreement, Disney+ subscribers in participating territories will have access to comprehensive live coverage of Formula E race weekends.

That includes every practice session, qualifying session and race, giving fans the chance to follow the championship from the opening session through to the chequered flag.

The streaming offering will also include dedicated preview and review programmes, race highlights, analysis, behind-the-scenes content and full race replays available on demand shortly after each event.

The new Disney+ partnership will operate alongside Formula E’s existing free-to-air and linear television broadcast agreements, meaning the championship will continue to offer a broad range of ways for fans to watch the action.

You can find out more about the championship and its latest announcements via the official Formula E website.

Disney+ Deal Coincides With Formula E GEN4 Launch

The timing of the announcement is particularly important, with the 2026/27 Formula E season marking the beginning of the revolutionary GEN4 era.

The new electric racing car has been designed to take performance to another level, producing up to 600kW of power, equivalent to more than 815 horsepower.

Formula E says the GEN4 car can accelerate from 0-60mph in approximately 1.8 seconds, making it around 30% quicker to 60mph than a Formula 1 car.

The new generation of cars is expected to push electric motorsport further while continuing Formula E’s role as a testing ground for electric vehicle technology.

21 Races Across 13 Cities

The 2026/27 Formula E calendar will feature 21 races across 13 cities, giving fans plenty of opportunities to follow the new GEN4 machines in action.

The season is scheduled to begin in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 18 December 2026, before travelling around the world and concluding with a night-time finale in Tokyo on 25 July 2027.

Formula E is also introducing an enhanced race weekend format designed to increase the amount of action and sporting drama for fans.

The championship has established itself as one of motorsport’s most unpredictable series, with 10 different drivers winning the title across its first 11 seasons.

Formula E Targets a New Global Audience

The Disney+ agreement represents a significant opportunity for Formula E to reach audiences beyond its established motorsport fanbase.

Disney’s global streaming infrastructure will allow the championship to appear alongside some of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises, potentially introducing electric racing to millions of households that may not currently follow Formula E.

Jeff Dodds, Chief Executive Officer of Formula E, described the agreement as a “landmark moment” for the championship, highlighting Disney’s global reach and storytelling capabilities as Formula E enters its GEN4 era.

“This is a landmark moment for Formula E and reflects the incredible momentum behind our Championship,” said Dodds.

He added that the partnership would help introduce Formula E to millions of new fans while bringing existing audiences closer to the “drama, innovation and excitement” of electric racing.

Joe Earley, Co-President of Direct-to-Consumer at Disney Entertainment, said Formula E combines world-class competition, technology and sustainability in a way that is unique within sport.

“We’re excited to help power the Championship’s next chapter on Disney+ and to give fans around the globe front row access to every adrenaline-fueled race as it happens,” he said.

When Does Formula E Move to Disney+?

The Disney+ Formula E deal begins with the 2026/27 Formula E season, which gets underway in December 2026 alongside the launch of the GEN4 era.

Fans will be able to watch live race weekends, including practice, qualifying and races, with additional highlights, analysis, previews, reviews and on-demand replays also forming part of the streaming offering.

The announcement comes just days before the conclusion of the current Formula E season, with the 2026 London E-Prix taking place at ExCeL London on 15 and 16 August, bringing the GEN3 era to a close before the championship enters its next chapter.
