New York City’s rising melodic punk rocker Caitlin Starr has officially announced her second EP, Speed Saves, set for release on October 9 via G-Foil Records. Alongside the announcement, the singer-songwriter and guitarist has unveiled the energetic new single “Pass Me By”, accompanied by a gritty music video filmed across the streets of New York City.
The five-track project promises an honest look at the relentless pace of modern life, combining infectious pop-punk melodies with raw alternative rock energy.
‘Pass Me By’ Captures The Rush Of Modern Life
Leading the campaign is “Pass Me By”, a guitar-driven anthem exploring the anxiety of watching life move forward while feeling left behind.
Driven by crunchy riffs, pounding drums and huge singalong hooks, the track blends classic pop-punk influences with grunge-inspired textures. According to Starr, the song takes a satirical look at paralysis, fear of missing out and the pressure to constantly keep moving.
The accompanying music video follows Starr on a late-night rollerblade journey through Manhattan, contrasting empty city streets with the endless motion of urban life. The visuals reinforce the song’s themes of isolation, nostalgia and momentum.
Speed Saves Explores Ambition, Burnout And Chasing Validation
Produced by Chris Cubeta, Speed Saves builds on Starr’s acclaimed 2025 debut EP Hold On Tight while expanding her heavier melodic punk sound.
The EP title cleverly twists familiar phrases like “Jesus saves” and “speed kills,” becoming a metaphor for the exhausting pace of everyday life. Starr explains that speed can feel like survival—whether through endless work, racing across the city, chasing success or seeking validation—but eventually every sprint has consequences.
Musically, the project balances piano-rooted songwriting with distorted guitars, driving rhythms and emotionally honest lyricism.
A Growing Force In New York’s Punk Scene
Before launching her solo career, Caitlin Starr established herself throughout New York City’s punk and metal community as a talented multi-instrumentalist.
She has performed as bassist for several bands, including Suzy Clue, Shred Flintstone, Skorts and Truman Flyer, while simultaneously developing her own distinctive blend of melodic punk, grunge and alternative rock.
Drawing inspiration from iconic 1990s acts including Belly, The Breeders and Nirvana, Starr combines emotional songwriting with powerful guitar work.
Speaking about her sound, Starr explains that melodic punk allows her to combine memorable pop melodies with the intensity of heavier music, creating songs that are both emotionally vulnerable and packed with energy.
