Picture this: It’s late at night, and your eyes are glued to your phone. You think, “If I don’t keep watching, I’ll miss something important,” or promise yourself that you’ll sleep after just “5 more scrolls.” You don’t even know how long it’s been – it could have been hours. It could have been days.
It’s time to take back control, says OnePlus. Enter Brain Rot Blaster, a retro-inspired web game which highlights the most common toxic tropes by bringing them to life as demonic characters to be blasted. Available from July 2025, the jam-packed new game will be your last doomscroll as it marks the launch of the OnePlus Nord 5, a device built to create more and scroll less.
Set in the murkiest corners of the internet, players take the form of devout content consumers, blasting away the toxic demons and ridding them from their late-night scrolling feed. After one play, the game self-destructs, encouraging players to stop scrolling and take back control by scoring productivity and creativity personal bests instead.
Each in-game character was inspired by the most common digital demons identified in OnePlus’ research*, including negative world news (32%), reality TV and celebrity drama (32%), and excessive displays of luxury living (27%). Conspiracy theories are another popular topic, drawing in over a quarter of Brits (26%).
During your ‘last doomscroll’, you’ll come face to face with characters including the coin throwing Blockchain Bro, the gong waving Wellness Guru and the Neg News Readers armed with an autocue, declaring the ‘worst is yet to come‘. And let’s not forget the Tin Foil Hat and dazzling teeth chucking Reality TV Chick shouting “babebabebabebabe”.
The research from OnePlus also revealed the UK’s most committed doomscrollers are losing over 1.5 hours (96 minutes) to the scroll cycle, which is the equivalent of a full weekend every month. It could be even more, as 22% are unable to recall the time they spend doomscrolling at all.
They say there is no commodity more precious than time, so what would you do if you had an additional weekend every month? An elaborate new hobby? Take a new course? Or maybe even explore the world or launch a side hustle? You name it.
Celina Shi, Chief Marketing Officer of OnePlus Europe said: “Our research shows that people are spending more time than they realise doomscrolling – time that could be used to create, connect or simply live more intentionally. We created Brain Rot Blaster to hold a mirror up to the content we consume daily and encourage people to take back control of their screen time. It’s a playful way to spark reflection, but a serious reminder of how much more we could be doing. Users can subscribe now to stay updated on the game launch and exclusive promotional offers.”
The OnePlus Nord 5 launches on the 8 July and is built to help users fight the scroll and ‘Up Their Game’. Made for those who want more – power, play, and possibilities – the smartphone is ideal for gamers, creators, and multitaskers. With AI Summary, AI Translate, and Open Canvas+ multitasking, it boosts user productivity.
And when it comes to creativity, its powerful camera, flagship display, and smart shortcuts like the Plus Key make it perfect for fast, sharp content creation. This device isn’t for scrolling – it’s for doing more and creating more.
