BLACK DESERT ONLINE INTRODUCES OLVIA ACADEMY UPDATE AND STAR’S END REMAKE

Pearl Abyss has unveiled Olvia Academy, a brand-new major update for Black Desert Online, designed to help new and returning Adventurers find their footing in the game’s vast open-world MMORPG. Launching on January 22, 2026, the update introduces a structured, term-based progression system alongside generous rewards, while also delivering a long-awaited remake of the iconic Star’s End monster zone.

The update reinforces Black Desert Online’s reputation for depth and player freedom, offering guided learning without sacrificing the game’s signature combat and life skill systems. Fans of the genre can explore more MMO and RPG news in Verge Magazine’s Gaming section.

Olvia Academy: A New Starting Point for Adventurers

Olvia Academy operates on a term system, with the first term running from January 22, 2026 (after maintenance) through April 16, 2026 (before maintenance). Adventurers with at least one Level 60 character can enrol via the Olvia Academy emblem located near the minimap.

Those who complete the introductory quest are rewarded with an exclusive Academia Outfit and a special title, marking their official entry into the Academy. The initiative is designed to make the early and mid-game experience more accessible, without diluting the depth that long-time players love.

A Two-Track Curriculum: Combat and Life Skills

Olvia Academy features a balanced curriculum split into two core learning paths:

  • Combat Course
Adventurers progress through a dedicated storyline that introduces fundamental combat mechanics while reinforcing core gameplay concepts, making it ideal for players adjusting to Black Desert Online’s skill-based combat system.

  • Life Skill Course
This track focuses on essential life skills such as Gathering, Cooking, and Alchemy, offering practical, hands-on instruction to support long-term progression beyond combat.

Completing both courses unlocks Family-wide rewards, ensuring that progress benefits an entire account rather than a single character.

High-Value Rewards for Long-Term Progression

The Combat Course offers some of the update’s most sought-after rewards, including high-end enhancement materials and powerful equipment. Highlights include a Choose Your PEN (V) Blackstar Weapon Box, Darkstar Black Stones for guaranteed PEN (V) Blackstar enhancement, and up to 6,000 Cron Stones.

Meanwhile, the Life Skill Course focuses on boosting non-combat progression, granting Blue-grade TRI (III) Life Skill Clothes, TRI (III) Life Tools, and up to 9,000 Cron Stones, making it a valuable path for players who enjoy crafting, gathering, and trading.

New Monster Zone and Weekly Academy Challenges

Adventurers can also take on pirates occupying a special monster zone near the Olvia campus, created exclusively for Academy progression. Weekly quests within this zone reward Academy Coins, which can be exchanged for additional items.

To maintain balance, increased item drop rates are disabled and Agris Fever is not consumed, ensuring focused progression without disrupting the wider game economy.

Star’s End Remake Brings a Faster Endgame Experience

Alongside Olvia Academy, the January 22 update introduces a full remake of Star’s End, one of Black Desert Online’s most iconic monster zones. Reimagined as a fast-paced, field-style endgame area, the revamped Star’s End leans into dynamic combat while enhancing its signature mechanics.

Adventurers can now obtain Effect Dyes for Sovereign Weapons and Edana’s Defense Gear using materials earned in Star’s End. These dyes allow players to customise visual effects, with Sovereign weapons also changing colour to match selected effects — blending cosmetic expression with meaningful endgame progression.

A Continually Evolving MMORPG

Developed by Pearl AbyssBlack Desert Online remains one of the genre’s most visually striking and mechanically deep MMORPGs. Known for its industry-leading character customisation and action-focused combat, the Black Desert IP has surpassed 55 million players worldwide across PC, mobile, and console.
