Something extraordinary is taking place in the Muggle universe today, 30th April, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the cinematic release of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry Potter enthusiasts and eagle-eyed Londoners can look to the sky at Tower Bridge to get a unique glimpse of an inflatable Aunt Marge taking full flight over the London skyline.
The spectacle will recreate the iconic scene where our favourite boy wizard unintentionally casts an Inflating Charm on his least-favourite aunt that causes her to blow up and float off. The prop weighs a staggering 95kgs, with a circumference spanning 11.7 metres, and took a whopping 96 hours to build.
A fifth of Brits rank the scene as one of their favourite from the Prisoner of Azkaban movie – and are even more impressed on learning that the scene was not CGI, but created entirely from special effects.
The event also marks the launch of the new feature ‘Return to Azkaban’ at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, which invites visitors to broaden their minds and cast themselves into the future by exploring the noble art of Divination, amongst other popular attractions.
Aunt Marge will be in flight from 09:00 to 12:00 – so hurry down to Potters Field to get a great view of this magical phenomenon!
