What Your MLB Team Says About You

Recently, sports publication Bolavip published a list of the top 25 MLB teams with the most fans. Today, I will be taking the ten most popular teams according to that list and analyzing what type of fan each team has. (Disclaimer: this comes from the mouth of a Yankees fan, born and raised. Go Yanks!)

10. Toronto Blue Jays – The Passionate Underdog

Coming in at number 10 on Bolavip’s list is the only MLB team outside the United States. The Blue Jays have been a bit of an underdog team for a while now, but that doesn’t stop the fans from being passionately invested in their players, for better or for worse. They follow every move, know every stat, and remain loyal to their team no matter the outcome.

9. Atlanta Braves – The Controversial Cheerer

The Atlanta Braves have dedicated fans with their own chants and cheers for their team. However, some of those cheers have come under fire recently, particularly the “tomahawk chop” which has come under fire for inaccurate and racist implications about Native Americans. While the Braves fans are certainly a unified front to support their players, they take some heat in doing so.

8. St. Louis Cardinals – The One with Bragging Rights

The Cardinals are one of the most successful franchises in MLB history with 11 World Series wins, the most in the National League. The self-anointed Best Fans in Baseball have been passionately cheering for their team for the entirety of its impressive history and will not hesitate to use those World Series wins against your team.

7. Texas Rangers – The Small but Mighty

Rangers fans are sometimes forced to live in the shadow of the other teams they share their state with, like the Houston Astros. Plus, their inconsistent success in the last few years has made it hard for them to build a strong fanbase. However, with multiple recent World Series appearances, that is changing quickly. The Rangers fanbase is on its way to becoming a mighty force in the baseball world.

6. Detroit Tigers  – Ole Reliable

Being one of the oldest teams in the American League, they have had their fair share of ups and downs. The fans have been along for the ride the entire time, loyally unwavering. Whether it be the highs of their World Series wins or the lows of recent seasons, there’s no one more loyal to their team than the Detroit Tigers.

5. San Francisco Giants – The Suit(s)

The Giants are an incredibly successful baseball team with the most wins in MLB history. A successful team attracts successful fans, and the Giants fanbase has garnered a reputation of appreciating the finer things in life. They are passionate about their rivalry with the Dodgers, and just as proud of their team’s success as they are their own.

4. Chicago Cubs – The Loud and Proud

The Chicago Cubs have an unwaveringly loyal fan base, even though they have only won a single World Series in the past century (and what a win it was). That doesn’t deter their fans, though. They are loud, proud, eager and willing to celebrate whenever, wherever. Cubs fans will take over any stadium they can at an away game and can overpower the cheers of just about any other team in baseball.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers – The Force to be Reckoned With

The Dodgers are a wildly popular team in baseball. In fact, they set the record for audience attendance in a stadium. They are loud and they are passionate—so passionate, it sometimes borders on mayhem. They treat baseball games like a party…by showing up late and leaving once they get bored! They always bring a beach ball, too!

2. Boston Red Sox – The Ride or Die

Boston Red Sox fans are truly ride or die for their team. They may be the rivals of my favorite team, but I have to commend their loyalty to the extremes. They drink hard and cheer on their team even harder. Don’t even think about trash-talking the Red Sox (especially if you’re a Yankee fan like me) without getting some death glares at the least. They are also proud residents of Fenway Park, arguably the best stadium in baseball whether you’re a local fan or a fan of a visiting team.

1. New York Yankees – The MVP

The Yankees are the most successful team in the MLB with 27 World Series wins. I’ll say that again for my Red Sox friends and family: twenty-seven World Series wins. Us Yankee fans are more than loud and proud: we love and tease our players like family. We show up to every game, rain or shine, and fill up every single D train on game day. We are from the best city in the world and fans of the best baseball team in the world (and we look pretty good in pinstripes). Yanks forever!

No matter who you root for, the one thing that brings us all together is our love for the game and we should celebrate that together! Even the Red Sox fans.
