There is a surprising amount of incredible films that have a gambling backdrop, some of which we have spoken about However, we have barely scratched the surface when talking about the best casino films of all time.
Ranging from films from the 1970s to as recent as 2020, the use of gambling in film has a long and impressive history and one that has spanned decades due to its high stakes and stressful gambling has the potential to be.
Now, a lot of these films are set before online gambling was really popular, nowadays the need to go to a casino or a bookmaker is less important as online casinos, like BoyleSports, offer live dealer games that perfectly emulate the casino experience.
Casino
However, the players in the 1995 Scorsese film Casino, did not have this as an option, which led to some tense moments throughout the film. This film stars Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro in two of their best-ever performances, the film itself is set in 1973 and is about a gangster named Ace (De Niro) who is in charge of running a Las Vegas mob-affiliated casino.
This film is overall, probably the best film we will mention today. Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone have a knack for stealing every single scene they are in during the film and as the hotheaded friend, Joe Pesci is constantly creating high tension that makes you feel on edge the entire time.
Most of the film takes place in or around the Las Vegas casino strip and shows how the casino is run and how certain people try to take advantage of casinos both betting and business-wise. If you like films or like betting, this film is one of the best examples of both.
Uncut Gems
Now onto a more recent film, Uncut Gems is a Netflix original starring Adam Sandler and Julia Fox and is the flip of Casino as it is mainly centred around sports betting. Directed by the Safdie Brothers, Uncut Gems is quietly about gambling even though the main centrepiece of the film is about gambling.
Adam Sandler is at his best during the creation of this film and his role as Howard will have you shouting at the screen in anger. The film itself is about a jeweller who clearly has a gambling problem as he tries to balance his family, his job and his adversaries as he tries to score that one big win.
When we mention stress and anxiety in film, this is the prime example as Howard constantly finds himself in situations that are avoidable and not worth the risks that he finds himself in. The ending of the film is incredible and despite Howard putting himself in these horrible situations, you constantly find yourself feeling sorry for him because you know he has a problem and he thinks the solution can be fixed by using the problem itself.
Rain Man
When you think of gambling, Rain Man is probably not the first film you think of due to the main part of the story being about a man with severe autism. However, the best scene in the film is a scene that involves a casino and a gambling and film list wouldn’t be complete without a mention.
The film itself is really heartwarming and the relationship between Raymond and Charlie is fun to watch even though the reason Charlie uses Raymond is a selfish one. However, the acting and the emotion of the film makes you feel for both characters and is also one of the best examples of both mental health and gambling as a whole.
