One of Britain’s most iconic bakery brands is marking a major milestone in style. To celebrate its 150th birthday, Warburtons has unveiled a brand-new TV advert titled “150 Years in the Baking” – and it’s narrated by none other than Morgan Freeman.
Premiering on Saturday 14th February during The Masked Singer on ITV at 7pm, the cinematic campaign is set to become another standout chapter in the brand’s long-running tradition of star-studded adverts.
A Hollywood Voice for a British Institution
Over the years, Warburtons has become known for enlisting A-list talent for its warm, tongue-in-cheek campaigns. Previous collaborators have included Olivia Colman, Robert De Niro, Samuel L. Jackson, George Clooney and Sylvester Stallone. Now, Freeman lends his unmistakable gravitas to the Bolton-based bakery’s 150-year story.
The advert opens at the company’s headquarters in Bolton, where Chairman and fifth-generation family member Jonathan Warburton sits at his desk, poised to enjoy a warm, buttery slice of Toastie loaf. As he takes a bite, Freeman’s rich, instantly recognisable voice begins to narrate.
With his signature wry delivery, Freeman guides viewers through a journey spanning a century and a half of baking obsession.
From Humble Beginnings to the Moon Landing
The advert cleverly blends humour with heritage. Freeman walks audiences through key moments of innovation in Warburtons’ history, juxtaposed with nostalgic scenes from the 20th century — even nodding to global milestones like the Apollo 11 Moon Landing.
In one standout moment, Freeman hilariously breaks character to question what on earth a crumpet actually is — prompting a playful exchange with Jonathan Warburton about the beloved British staple and its famously “300 holes”.
The campaign not only celebrates the brand’s longevity but highlights the generational passion behind it. A particularly poignant scene shows a Warburton grandfather, fresh from the bakery, cradling his newborn grandson in hospital — symbolising the passing of the baking legacy to the sixth generation.
The advert closes in the present day, as a fleet of Warburtons lorries roll by, reinforcing the brand’s status as a true British household name.
Morgan Freeman on Joining the Warburtons Family
Speaking about the collaboration, Freeman said:
“Lending my voice to chronicle 150 years of this family’s unwavering dedication to the simple, yet profound, act of baking… well, that’s a narrative that truly deserves to be heard. Their commitment to quality baking, passed down through generations, shines through, making it abundantly clear why they’ve remained a beloved household name for so long. And I confess, I found myself quite taken by that crumpet – 300 holes, I told you these Warburtons were crazy!”
Jonathan Warburton added:
“Baking truly is in our blood. This is more than just an advert; it’s a celebration of 150 years of simply doing what we love – baking delicious bread for British families. It’s not every day you turn 150, and we wanted to mark this incredible milestone with everyone who’s made us a part of their family’s lives.”
He continued, praising Freeman as “the world’s most recognisable storyteller”, noting that the Hollywood legend brings an epic, cinematic scale to even the brand’s humble beginnings.
150 Years of British Baking Heritage
Founded in 1876, Warburtons has grown from a small family bakery into the UK’s largest bakery brand, supplying supermarkets and homes nationwide. Its longevity lies in a careful balance of innovation and tradition — from classic loaves and crumpets to gluten-free and plant-based ranges catering to modern tastes.
As consumer interest in British heritage brands continues to rise, campaigns like this reinforce why Warburtons remains a staple at the breakfast table and in lunchboxes across the country.
With Hollywood polish, heartfelt storytelling and a touch of crumpet comedy, “150 Years in the Baking” proves that some family traditions — like a perfectly toasted slice of bread — never go out of style.
