Andre Dixon catches ups with Kiss FM DJ Tinea Taylor to talk about her career, lockdown style tips and celebrity interviews.
Tinea has been in the entertainment industry for over 10 years, working her way up from an online presenting job with a pop culture magazine, to securing a coveted sole presenting job on new the new Kiss FM: Kiss Hype Chart. Tinea is UK radio royalty, and can also be heard presenting the early Saturday morning show on Kiss and weekdays on KissFresh.
With over a decade of experience under her belt, 32 year old Tinea is a beaming example of hard work and determination paying off. From the age of 16, she knew I wanted to be a TV and radio presenter, but the representation of black women in British media was scarce and she came up against confusion and scrutiny when she applied for roles at stations others felt weren’t appropriate for her. She’s now live six days a week on one of the UK’s biggest radio stations, DJ’s at huge events in Ibizia and Mallorca and presents at the country’s biggest festivals including Wireless and V Fest, as well as awards shows such as the MTV EMAs and MOBOS. Not to mention her voiceover work with ITV2 and regular presenting jobs on MTV.
Now, Tinea wants to share her journey as a black woman in UK radio, in the hope of inspiring other young women to pursue their dreams. She has become a familiar voice for thousands of young listeners, who she hopes to share her positivity and ambition with, inspiring them to make it happen. She has been a key speaker at several female empowerment events including ‘Go Think Big’ sessions and GRL PWR GANG’s all-female workshops.
