From Marilyn Monroe using Vaseline Jelly as a primer for her signature on-camera glow to Cole Walliser creating dreamy filters with Vaseline Jelly, Vaseline launches “Vaseline Verified” to celebrate the raft of ways the “Wonder Jelly” can be used…
For the first time in 150 years, Vaseline has uncovered how people actually use Vaseline Jelly, and it isn’t just for moisturisation.
The brand has launched “Verified”, a new seal which scientifically backs some of the community “hacks” of the “Wonder Jelly”.
Since the creation of Vaseline Jelly, the product has been praised for its versatility, but it’s the first time the brand has engaged in conversations that celebrate the creative applications shared by users. In a recent poll of the nation*, the brand revealed the wonderous ways Brits apply Vaseline beyond skincare, from preventing chaffing and blisters (42%), preventing staining on the hairline when dying hair (21%), removing stuck rings or bangles (31%) to tattoo care (16%).
And while the survey unveiled a myriad of surprising ways for the humble pot of Vaseline Jelly, it was clear that Brits underestimate its applications. 32% mistakenly believe there are only five uses, when the brand has confirmed a staggering 101 uses.
With over six thousand organic TikTok posts showing ingenious applications of Vaseline Jelly, the brand identified the community “hacks” to road test in its laboratories.
From there, scientists and experts conducted evaluations to scientifically validate their efficacy and safety. Only those meeting the brand’s standards will earn the coveted “Vaseline Verified” seal, thereby empowering everyone with the confidence to try these scientifically backed Vaseline Jelly uses.
Here are a few examples of “hacks” that have already earned the “Vaseline Verified” seal:
- Hair Dye “Hack”: Applying Vaseline Jelly along the hairline before dyeing hair prevents staining. Verified: Creates a protective barrier against some dyes.
- Tame Beards, Eyebrows and Flyaways: Smooth and style unruly beards and flyaway hairs with a small amount of Vaseline Jelly. Verified: Provides light hold and shine.
- Removing Stuck Rings or Bangles: Applying Vaseline Jelly around a stuck ring or bangle to lubricate the skin. Verified: Reduces friction for easier and more comfortable removal.
- Leather “Hack”: Moisturize and protect leather shoes, bags, or furniture with a thin layer of Vaseline Jelly. Verified: Prevents cracking and restores shine.
- Prevent Chafing or Blisters: Apply Vaseline Jelly to areas prone to chafing or blisters during running or other physical activity. Verified: Creates a protective barrier, reducing friction and preventing irritation.
- Boosting perfume: Apply a very thin layer of Vaseline Jelly to pulse points to help perfume last longer on the skin. Verified: Creates a barrier that helps to hold the fragrance.
But there’s one “hack” that comes up frequently that the brand hasn’t been able to verify, as 1 in 5 Brits (22%) admit to using Vaseline Jelly for sex. One of the urban myths around Vaseline Jelly is that it can be used as a lubricant in the bedroom.
In fact, there is so much hearsay around its lubrication properties that more than two thirds (68%) have heard that you can use it during any sexual activity, and most worryingly of all, a third (32%) believe it is ok to do so.
The brand has enlisted Obstetrics & Gynae Registrar Doctor, Dr Brooke Vandermolen, to shed some light on the verified ways Vaseline Jelly can be used.
Dr Brooke Vandermolen explains
“Vaseline Jelly has many safe applications, but one of the things that it shouldn’t be used for is sex. As this can lead to issues such as splitting condoms and potentially causing bacterial infections – which we want to avoid! Lubricants are fantastic for reducing friction and boosting the fun factor, but it’s crucial to use the right kind. What Vaseline Jelly can do is moisturise. It’s a lifesaver for dry skin, chapped lips, and all sorts of other things. It’s a staple in my skincare routine. But when it comes to intimacy, you need to stick to lubricants specifically designed for that purpose.”
Speaking about the vast number of other ways Vaseline Jelly can be used, Purnima Lamba, Global Brand Vice President of Vaseline explains “For more than a century, Vaseline Jelly has been praised for its versatility. We encourage our community to come forward to share even more refreshing ways to use Vaseline Jelly in a bid to secure the coveted “Verified” seal. Watch this space!”
