Uber Eats has today launched searchable pickup maps, and customers can use more than 30 different emoji to find the foods they want. The new feature is being introduced as customers seek to save time and money by picking up their food from a nearby restaurant rather than having it delivered.
As many as 8 out of 10 Uber Eats users have faced issues in craving a takeaway, only to learn that the restaurant is miles away, and switched to other map apps to search for nearby food in the process. Uber Eats’ new pickup maps resolve this issue, and allow users to type in emoji such as bagel, ramen and falafel to find the types of food they want.
Whereas before Uber Eats users could see what was available for pick-up by scrolling the map, they can now use the new search function to more easily find the cuisine they’re looking to enjoy.
As well as helping with pick-up orders in users’ local areas, the maps can help plan the restaurants you want to visit on holiday. For instance, if you’re looking for pizza on your next trip to Rome, you can search what’s available using the pizza emoji.
The feature is also set to help those heading home from work who want to quickly grab dinner, or are heading to a friend’s for a social gathering and want to pick up some party snacks and drinks. In addition to restaurants, grocery and convenience stores are also part of the new service.
To access the new feature, users can simply open the Uber Eats in-app map, type what they’re looking for (using words or emoji) and see what’s available for pickup.
Emoji that users can type in to find what they’re looking for:
- Hot Dog
- French Fries
