TIMEX CELEBRATES 170 YEARS OF TIMEKEEPING LEGACY WITH LIMITED-EDITION $1 WATERBURY WATCH

Timex has announced the launch of a remarkable celebration of their 170th anniversary with a groundbreaking release: a limited-edition Waterbury watch for just $1 (£1 here in the UK), reviving a legacy of accessible timekeeping. This special release honours Timex’s rich heritage of watchmaking, tracing back to 1854 when the company first emerged as the Waterbury Clock Company. It commemorates the iconic Yankee pocket watch, the brand’s first timepiece sold at $1—famously known as “the watch that made the dollar famous.”

170 years ago, timekeeping was a luxury reserved for the elite. Pocket watches came with a steep price, out of reach for the average person. But then, the Waterbury Clock Company changed everything, democratising timekeeping for all. It became an essential tool for everyday Americans: farmers checked it during harvests, train conductors relied on it for punctuality, and factory workers synchronised their breaks by its hands. By the turn of the century, over six million ‘dollar watches’ had made their way into households across the country.

In this special anniversary edition, Timex stays true to its roots, offering a beautifully crafted timepiece with a 170th Anniversary logo on a sleek, ice-white dial. The 19mm Roman numeral markers, finely lacquered in 3D, along with a case back engraved to commemorate this milestone, reflect the brand’s unwavering commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide, the Timex 170th Anniversary limited-edition watch will be available on the 16th of November at Timex.co.uk and instore at Frasers in Meadowhall, £1.
