THE LORD OF THE RINGS RETURNS TO CINEMAS FOR A 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT VUE

Middle-earth is calling once again. One of the most iconic fantasy trilogies in cinema history, The Lord of the Rings, is heading back to the big screen at Vue cinemas to celebrate 25 years since audiences first embarked on the epic journey with Frodo and the Fellowship.

Based on the legendary novels by J.R.R. Tolkien, Vue will be screening the extended editions of all three films, giving fans the ultimate chance to experience Peter Jackson’s groundbreaking trilogy exactly as it was meant to be seen – on the biggest screen possible.

A cinematic masterpiece returns to Middle-earth

Originally released between 2001 and 2003, The Lord of the Rings trilogy became a global phenomenon, redefining fantasy cinema and setting a new benchmark for epic storytelling. Directed by Peter Jackson, the films received an astonishing 30 Academy Award nominations, taking home 17 Oscars, including Best Picture for The Return of the King.

Set in the richly imagined world of Middle-earth, the story follows humble hobbit Frodo Baggins, who is entrusted with a dangerous mission: to destroy the One Ring before it falls into the hands of the Dark Lord Sauron. Alongside fellow hobbits Sam, Merry and Pippin, Frodo is joined by an unforgettable cast of characters including Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, as they face epic battles, ancient evils and impossible odds.

Why The Lord of the Rings belongs on the big screen

From sweeping New Zealand landscapes to thunderous battle sequences and Howard Shore’s iconic score, The Lord of the Rings is a franchise that truly shines in cinemas. The extended editions, in particular, offer deeper character moments, expanded storylines and even more time spent in Tolkien’s beloved world.

Rob Lea, Head of Screen Content at Vue UK and Ireland, said:

“The Lord of the Rings trilogy is simply made to be seen on the big screen so, to mark 25 years since its release, we’re thrilled to return to Middle-earth at Vue. Whether you’ve walked to Mordor many times before or are venturing into the world of J.R.R. Tolkien for the first time, we’re excited to welcome audiences to enjoy this iconic trilogy at Vue.”
