SUBWAY’S ‘SLEEPING BAG-UETTE’ IS THE ULTIMATE FESTIVAL ESSENTIAL FOR SLEEP-DEPRIVED GEN Z

Festival season may be all about late nights, muddy fields and headline performances, but new research from Subway UK & Ireland suggests Gen Z is rewriting the rules of festival culture — and sleep is now a top priority.

According to new research commissioned by the sandwich chain, four in ten young festivalgoers would actually be willing to miss a headline act if it meant getting enough rest. In response, Subway has unveiled one of the summer’s most unusual festival accessories: the giant ‘Sleeping Bag-uette’.

Subway’s Giant ‘Sleeping Bag-uette’ Is Real

Inspired by Subway’s iconic Italian B.M.T. Sub, the oversized novelty sleeping bag measures an impressive three metres long and is designed to resemble the brand’s signature sandwich complete with layered fillings.

The campaign comes as festival comfort becomes increasingly important for younger audiences. Subway says nearly half of Gen Z respondents now rank comfort ahead of watching headline artists, while access to toilets, food, showers and quieter camping areas are becoming essential parts of the overall experience.

Kirstey Elston, EMEA Senior Marketing Director at Subway, said the campaign was created to help festivalgoers “recharge without missing a beat”.

“We know festival season is all about making unforgettable memories – but we don’t want fans running on empty, whether it’s their stomachs, or lack of sleep,” Elston explained.

Gen Z Festivalgoers Are Prioritising Comfort

The research reveals that festival sleeping conditions are becoming a major factor in whether young people choose to attend events at all.

Among the biggest reasons Gen Z say they avoid festivals are:

  • Rising costs
  • Long travel distances
  • Poor weather
  • Uncomfortable sleeping conditions

Meanwhile, a sleeping bag was ranked the single worst item festivalgoers could forget to pack — ahead of phone chargers, underwear and even ID.

Brits attending festivals this year also expect to average just 4.8 hours of sleep per night, with noise, extreme temperatures and uncomfortable campsites listed as the biggest sleep disruptors.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, 63% of respondents said they would choose a designated quiet camping area if it meant fewer late-night parties.
