Wedding bells are ringing – and ringing, and ringing. 2022 is slated to be one of the busiest wedding years on the books.
It’s safe to say that wedding festivities wouldn’t be the same without the right tunes – and on Spotify, there are over 14.8 million wedding-related user-generated playlists worldwide. Plus, wedding content on Spotify in the UK has skyrocketed recently, with a 620% increase in streams of Spotify’s “Country Wedding” playlist and a 144% increase in streams of Spotify’s “Wedding Songs“ playlist.
To celebrate the summer wedding season, Spotify is revamping its global Wedding Season Hub and partnering with celebrity wedding planner and industry legend Mindy Weiss to curate an exclusive wedding playlist. The new playlist, “A Very Mindy Weiss Wedding” includes her top song picks for wedding season, and can be found within the Wedding Season Hub. Inspired by a mix of new music with nods to the classics, her playlist features a mix of tracks including “(There Is) No Greater Love” by Amy Winehouse, “Wildest Dreams” by Duomo, from Bridgerton, “Your Song” by Elton John, “Moon River” by Frank Ocean, “pov” by Ariana Grande, and more. Known for her work with the Kardashians, the Biebers, and more, Mindy also spoke with Spotify’s For The Record blog about collaborating with Spotify and the special part that music plays in wedding festivities.
We’re also crowning one song as the ultimate wedding hit based on user generated data (more on that below). From the bachelorette party to the first dance and every moment in between, check out some of the global wedding listening trends we’ve seen on Spotify this year:
- The ultimate wedding track – Whitney Houston‘s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)“ reigns supreme as the number one song included in user-generated wedding playlists, followed closely by The Killers‘ “Mr. Brightside,” “Marry You,” by Bruno Mars‘ and Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars) by Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson
- A first dance with Ed Sheeran – For Gen Z and young Millennial listeners, Etta James is the artist of choice for setting the first dance mood; “At Last“ is the most-added track to user-generated “first dance” playlists for fans in these age groups.
- Girl power anthems are the soundtrack to Bachelorette playlists – With Whitney Houston‘s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” Cyndi Lauper‘s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” Spice Girls‘ “Wannabe,” and Beyoncé‘s “Single Ladies“amongst the songs most-added to Bachelorette-related playlists.
- Bachelor parties are staying with the girl power anthem – Songs like Spice Girls‘ “Wannabe,” “Single Ladies and “Crazy In Love (Feat. Jay-Z)” both by Beyoncé, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)“by Whitney Houston and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” by Cyndi Lauper are the songs most-added to these playlists.
