If you’re looking for the ultimate way to kick off Christmas in London, Spitalfields Market has just announced its brand-new festive programme — and it’s shaping up to be one of the capital’s must-visit holiday destinations. Located just five minutes from Liverpool Street station, it’s perfectly placed for a magical winter day out packed with lights, food, music, shopping and seasonal surprises.
From 12 November, Spitalfields Market will transform its iconic Bishops Square into a shimmering Christmas village, complete with artisan chalets, twinkling lights, festive experiences and delicious global food traders. Whether you’re hunting for one-of-a-kind gifts, planning a cosy date night or entertaining the family, this East London staple promises something for everyone.
A Pop-Up Christmas Village in Bishops Square
From Wednesday 12 November, visitors will be greeted by a brand-new pop-up Christmas experience. Expect glowing decorative lighting, cosy wooden chalets and a charming Gingerbread House hosting festive workshops and activations.
The chalet bar will keep things warm with winter favourites including mulled wine, boozy Malibu hot chocolate, winterberry spritz, espresso martinis and festive piña coladas. Beers, ciders, coffee and soft drinks will also be available — plus a daily Malibu happy hour from 5–6pm for those looking to toast the season.
Food-wise, global street-food traders will be serving everything from churros to cheesy khachapuris and indulgent parmesan truffle fries — perfect for grazing while you explore the market.
Festive Activities & Family Fun
Spitalfields’ successful Light the World programme returns this year with an expanded line-up of family-friendly activities.
Meet Santa Claus
Visitors can enjoy a free meet-and-greet with Santa Claus and his elves on Saturday 6 December (2pm–4:10pm) — ideal for magical family photos.
Light the World Machines
Launching 6 December, interactive donation machines will allow visitors to support charities including The Felix Project. Contributions will help fund clean water, food for vulnerable children, hygiene supplies, clothing and more, spreading Christmas cheer far beyond the market.
A Dazzling New Christmas Lights Display
Spitalfields will glow brighter than ever this year. Expect:
-
Sparkling LED lights illuminating the market
-
Candy cane pillars along Lamb Street
-
Neon festive lighting woven through the trees in Bishops Square
It’s a picture-perfect backdrop for holiday shopping, Christmas dates and social media snaps.
Artisan & Independent Shopping
Christmas gifting becomes effortless at Spitalfields. The market hosts over 90 independent traders, offering vintage fashion, art, jewellery, accessories and unique handmade pieces you won’t find on the high street.
Don’t miss the Arts Market in Crispin Place (Friday–Sunday), which champions emerging and established artists. It’s the ideal spot for discovering affordable artwork or special one-off pieces.
Your Christmas Shopping & Dining Hotspot
Spitalfields blends beloved independents with high-street favourites including Astrid & Miyu, OMNES, Malin + Goetz, ON, Rains, Earl of East and Glassworks — making it one of London’s top gifting locations this season.
From 5–7 December, the Arts Market will be open for a limited-time showcase featuring original works from up-and-coming creators — perfect for personalised gifting.
After shopping, refuel at one of Spitalfields’ many dining spots. Highlights include:
