From fiery margaritas to hot honey spritzes, spicy cocktails are becoming one of the biggest drinks trends of 2026, with British consumers increasingly seeking bold flavours, premium experiences and Instagram-worthy serves.
Now, Edinburgh Gin is tapping into the growing appetite for heat-infused drinks with the launch of its new Spicy Chilli & Lime Liqueur, available nationwide through Tesco and online via Amazon.
The launch comes as new research reveals younger generations are driving a shift towards adventurous food and drink choices, transforming cocktail culture across the UK.
Brits Are Becoming More Adventurous With Food and Drink
According to research commissioned by Edinburgh Gin and conducted among 2,000 UK adults, consumers are embracing experimentation more than ever before.
The findings show:
- 58% of Gen Z consumers have become more adventurous with food and drink in recent years
- 55% of millennials say the same
- 54% of Gen X respondents are increasingly open to trying new flavours
The trend is helping fuel demand for spicy cocktails, including chilli margaritas, jalapeño-infused serves and citrus-led drinks that combine sweetness with heat.
Why Spicy Cocktails Are Trending
Taste is only part of the appeal.
The research found that 45% of millennials and 32% of Gen Z consumers believe bold, spicy flavours make drinks feel more premium.
Meanwhile, social media continues to influence ordering habits, with 37% of millennials and 34% of Gen Z respondents saying they would choose a drink based on how it looks online.
Visually striking cocktails featuring colourful garnishes, dramatic presentation and unique flavour combinations are increasingly becoming a key part of social occasions.
Drink Choices Are Becoming A Lifestyle Statement
The study also highlights how drink selections are becoming an extension of personal style.
More than a third of Brits (36%) believe what someone orders says something about their personality and tastes. That figure rises to 47% among millennials and 43% among Gen Z consumers.
Additionally, 36% of millennials and 26% of Gen Z respondents say a person’s drink choice can influence first impressions in social settings.
As cocktail culture evolves, consumers are increasingly using drinks to showcase individuality and explore new flavour experiences.
