Fans of gaming’s fastest blue hero can now lace up their running shoes and experience a unique Sonic-inspired adventure in the heart of London.
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, SEGA has unveiled the Sonic Speed Circuit, a specially designed running route through Shoreditch that takes the shape of Sonic himself.
The immersive activation combines fitness, street art and gaming culture, giving fans a chance to explore some of East London’s most iconic streets while celebrating one of gaming’s most beloved characters.

A Running Route Inspired by Gaming’s Fastest Hero
The Sonic Speed Circuit features a 10km route beginning on Ebor Street in Shoreditch, where runners can follow a path shaped like Sonic the Hedgehog.
Along the course, visitors will discover seven large-scale murals celebrating Sonic’s legacy. For those looking for a shorter experience, SEGA has also created a 500-metre route that showcases all of the artwork without requiring participants to complete the full circuit.
The streets of Shoreditch have been transformed with Sonic-themed displays and hoardings, creating an interactive celebration that blends gaming nostalgia with London’s vibrant street art culture.
Sonic and Running: A Natural Match for Millennials
The campaign follows new research commissioned by SEGA that highlights the growing popularity of running among millennials—the first generation to grow up alongside Sonic.
According to the findings:
- 46% of millennials go for a run at least once a week.
- 62% believe it is never too late to start running.
- 53% say mental strength is more important than physical strength.
- 50% consider running the best form of endurance training.
- 35% believe continued self-improvement is the most rewarding aspect of running.
The research also found that Sonic remains a popular cultural icon, with 21% of millennials naming him as their ideal running partner.
That figure surpassed other famous speedsters, including The Flash, Road Runner and Quicksilver.
Seven Murals Bring Sonic to Life Across Shoreditch
To create the artwork, SEGA partnered with a collection of talented illustrators whose portfolios include collaborations with major entertainment brands such as Disney, Marvel, Netflix, Pixar and DC.
Fans can visit the murals between 1 June and 28 June at locations including:
- 30 Redchurch Street, London E2 7DP
- Holywell Lane, London E2
- Great Eastern Wall, London E2
- Ebor Street, London E1 6AW
SEGA Celebrates Sonic’s Legacy Through Community and Movement
Jamie Turner, Head of Brand Marketing & Partnerships at SEGA, said the anniversary offered the perfect opportunity to connect Sonic’s themes of speed and adventure with modern running culture.
According to Turner, the initiative was designed to bring fans together through movement, community participation and playful competition, while allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Sonic’s world through both the running route and the accompanying artwork.
Exclusive Sonic Merchandise Up for Grabs
The research also revealed that 38% of Britons would be more motivated to run if rewards were involved.
To encourage participation, runners who complete the Sonic Speed Circuit during June will be entered into a prize draw to win exclusive 35th-anniversary Sonic merchandise, including:
- Sonic water bottles
- Running socks
- Pin badges
- Limited-edition mural prints
