PROCRASTI-NATION! A WARDROBE TIDY-UP, CLEARING OUT THE FRIDGE, AND SWITCHING ENERGY TARIFFS ARE THE TASKS BRITS CAN’T STOP PUTTING OFF

New data from E.ON Next reveals we’re a nation of chronic procrastinators when it comes to tackling our life admin. However September, with its ‘Back to School’ feeling, is the month we’re most likely to finally get around to ticking things off our never-ending to-do lists.

The research shows the nation puts off life admin tasks they dread for an average of 18 days before getting started. Having a wardrobe clear out (42%) tops the list of tasks we never seem to get around to followed by cleaning the fridge (39%), tackling bathroom mess (38%), cleaning the car (37%) and doing DIY (34%.) Furthermore, almost 1 in 5 (18%) admit they struggle to get around to switching energy tariff.

Over half of us (58%) wish we could nip our procrastination in the bud as 43% agree that putting off tasks adds unnecessary costs, and 62% say putting stuff off makes their lives more difficult in the long run. But the findings reveal September is the month Brits are most likely to stop putting tasks off and get on top of their life admin, with 58% reporting a ‘Back to School’ feeling inspires them to tackle their to-do list. For 81% of parents, the kids going back to school means they finally have time to get stuff done, while more than half (58%) of the nation agree they’re actually more productive in September than at the start of January.

With the research revealing switching energy tariff is one of the tasks Brits struggle to get around to (18%), E.ON Next is making it easy for the nation to make the most of their September productivity and future proof their energy with its Next Pledge Tariff (T&Cs apply*).

Ramona Vlasiu, Chief Operating Officer at E.ON Next, said: “We know that to-do lists can feel never-ending, but September brings that ‘Back to School’ feeling, making it an ideal time to tackle your life admin. With a quarter of Brits admitting to putting off switching their energy tariff for at least a year, we’re encouraging customers to future proof their energy now. With our Next Pledge tariff, you’ll get energy prices guaranteed to stay below the Ofgem price cap, offering peace of mind and helping you tick off one of those tasks which is commonly put off, allowing you to save money and focus on what really matters.”

Over half of Brits admit they’ve delayed switching energy tariffs, even when they know they could save money (62%). A quarter (25%) say they’ve been meaning to look into it for at least a year, while 31% have no idea what tariff they’re currently on.

Top 15 tasks Brits are most likely to put off:

  1. Having a wardrobe clear out (43%)
