Disney and Pixar have officially unveiled the first teaser trailer and poster for Toy Story 5 — and this time, the iconic franchise is stepping into the world of smart tech. The film, arriving in UK cinemas on 19 June 2026, introduces a brand-new digital-age character who promises to cause chaos for Woody, Buzz and the gang.
Meet Lilypad: The New Smart Tech Villain
The teaser offers fans a first look at Lilypad, a frog-shaped, high-tech smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee (Past Lives, The Morning Show, TRON: Ares). Lilypad’s cutting-edge capabilities quickly become a threat to traditional toys, forcing Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Forky to rethink their approach to playtime.
The Toy Story franchise has always thrived on blending heartfelt storytelling with imaginative worlds, and the introduction of a tech-savvy antagonist feels like a natural evolution for 2026.
The Legacy Cast Returns — With an Unexpected Newcomer
Fan favourites are all reporting back for duty:
-
Tom Hanks as Woody
-
Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear
-
Joan Cusack as Jessie
-
Tony Hale as Forky
And joining them? Conan O’Brien — announced as the voice of “Smarty Pants,” a toilet-training tech toy that fits perfectly into the film’s new tech-versus-toys theme.
A Modern Toy Story for a Tech-Driven World
Director Andrew Stanton (WALL•E, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory) and co-director Kenna Harris (Ciao Alberto) describe the project as a blend of comedy and emotional resonance that reflects how toys might navigate today’s digital world.
“It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favourite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology,” They said. “Having Greta Lee bring Lilypad to life — balancing a playfully antagonistic tone with humour and heart — has been incredible.”
The film is produced by Lindsey Collins, known for Turning Red and WALL•E.
