Global music distribution platform Octiive has announced a strategic collaboration with Sound Royalties, giving independent artists access to upfront funding based on their royalty earnings—without sacrificing ownership or creative control.
The move comes as more artists operate outside traditional label systems, building sustainable careers independently but often facing limited access to capital.
Tackling One of Music’s Biggest Barriers: Access to Capital
For many independent musicians, scaling a career isn’t just about talent—it’s about funding. From studio time to marketing campaigns and touring, the costs can quickly add up.
Through this new collaboration, artists using Octiive’s platform can unlock advances ranging from $1,000 to more than $75 million for high-performing catalogues. Crucially, this funding model allows artists to reinvest in their careers without giving up rights to their music.
This reflects a broader shift in the industry, where ownership and independence are becoming increasingly valuable commodities for creators.
How the Funding Works
The integration gives Octiive’s global network—spanning over 20,000 artists and 3,000 labels—direct access to Sound Royalties’ financial services within the platform itself.
Artists can choose between two tailored funding options:
- AdvanceNow: Designed for emerging artists earning between $1,000 and $5,000 annually
- Standard Advances: Larger funding options for artists generating over $5,000 per year
AdvanceNow, in particular, offers a fast-track solution, with eligible artists able to receive up to $5,000 within just three business days.
A Transparent Alternative to Traditional Financing
Unlike traditional loans or label deals, the advances are repaid through a portion of future royalties over a fixed term. That means:
- No credit checks
- No personal guarantees
- No hidden fees
- Artists retain 100% ownership of their masters
The process is designed to be straightforward: artists submit their royalty data, receive a personalised funding analysis, and can access capital within days of approval.
Supporting Artists at Every Stage
According to Octiive CEO Mershad Javan, the collaboration is about empowering artists to build sustainable careers on their own terms.
Similarly, Sound Royalties founder and CEO Alex Heiche emphasised the need for financial solutions that match the pace of today’s independent music economy. With the launch of AdvanceNow, the company aims to serve both emerging and established artists through a mix of technology and human support.
Why This Matters for the Future of Independent Music
The independent music sector is experiencing record growth, with more artists choosing to remain independent rather than signing traditional label deals. However, access to funding has remained a persistent challenge.
By embedding financial tools directly into distribution platforms like Octiive, collaborations like this could reshape how artists fund their careers—making it easier to scale without compromise.
How to Apply
Artists interested in exploring funding opportunities can apply directly via the Octiive platform, where they’ll receive a personalised funding analysis based on their royalty performance.
