From April 21–26 in Milan, NII will present its first collection at one of the world’s most influential design events, marking its expansion beyond Japan. Established within the ITOKI group—renowned for over a century of innovation in professional environments—NII enters the global stage with a concept that redefines how we experience work.
Rather than treating workspaces as static environments, NII positions them as dynamic ecosystems built around human interaction. This philosophy aligns with ITOKI’s guiding vision: “We Design Tomorrow. We Design Work-Style.”
Collaboration with Leading Designers
At the heart of NII’s debut collection is a collaboration with some of the most respected names in contemporary design. The studio AMDL Circle, led by Michele De Lucchi, introduces layered, architectural approaches to workspace structures.
Alongside them, designers Todd Bracher, Rodolfo Agrella, and Jun Aizaki bring a more fluid and intuitive sensibility—emphasising movement, interaction, and reconfigurable design.
Ingenious Design for Modern Workspaces
NII’s first collection is divided into four distinct product families, each reflecting a unique design perspective while sharing a common philosophy: Ingenious design. This concept centres on creating furniture that doesn’t dictate how it should be used but instead encourages flexibility and creativity.
Expect adaptable modules, open surfaces that invite collaboration, and environments that blur the lines between work and social interaction. These systems are designed not only for offices but also for public and hybrid spaces, reflecting the evolving nature of work in 2026.
A People-First Approach to Innovation
Under the creative direction of Hirotaka Tako, the brand builds on ITOKI’s principle of “AI × Design Based on PEOPLE.” This approach combines human-centred design with research-driven innovation, positioning furniture as a tool for fostering communication, imagination, and productivity.
“We design ingenious furniture intended to foster communication, collaboration, and imagination in shared spaces,” Tako explains. “Furniture that energises teams and creates places where people meet, interact, and move fluidly within the space.”
Why This Matters Now
As hybrid working continues to redefine professional environments, NII’s debut taps into a growing demand for flexible, human-centric design. The brand’s presence at Salone del Mobile.Milano signals a shift towards more adaptive, experience-led workspaces that prioritise connection over convention.
