Ever wondered how a dinosaur wears a jumper? The Natural History Museum has answered the age-old question, and in the most festive of ways. For those who have not yet visited the NHM this season, their both beloved and (in)famous animatronic T.rex is sporting the Museum’s 2024 Christmas Jumper in true style, set to model the new festivewear in the Dinosaur Gallery until January 2025.
This much-loved tradition coincides with the launch of the Museum’s exclusive Christmas range, featuring everything from tree toppers to snow globe stocking fillers available to purchase both during visits from the gift store, and online for the perfect last-minute must-haves.
This year’s festive knitwear features Fern the Diplodocus as the protagonist, a nod to the nation’s favourite dinosaur, Dippy. The vibrant design comes in jumpers, scarves, hats, and socks, all showcasing vibrant reds, blues, greens, and whites. The jumper is set against the backdrop of the Museum’s iconic South Kensington façade, with Christmas trees and Santa hats adding that extra holiday sparkle.
The exclusive collection has been created by Manchester-based social enterprise and social factory notjust, using 100% sustainable organic cotton. Founded in 2017, notjust creates bespoke garments while driving positive social impact, raising over £100,000 for charities like Save the Children and The Trussell Trust through their viral campaigns.
Adam Farrar, Director of Commercial and Visitor Experience at the Natural History Museum, says:
“The annual unveiling of our Christmas T.rex display has become a firm favourite amongst our audiences, and we are delighted to kick off festivities at the Museum with our prehistoric pal. All proceeds from our Christmas range including our Christmas knitwear will continue to support our world-leading scientific research and public programming.”
Jumpers are priced at £45 for adults and £30 for children, with scarves sold at £18 and hats for £18. Other highlights from the NHM’s Christmas Shop include the Fern Wooden Christmas Tree Decoration (£15) for a sophisticated scientific touch, the Dinosaurs Snow Globe (£8) for ultimate dinosaur buffs, and the range of calendars (price varies) for those seeking an organised start to the New Year with a slice of fun.
