MOUNT GAY LAUNCHES EXCEPTIONALLY AGED COLLECTION TO CELEBRATE 320 YEARS OF BARBADIAN RUM-MAKING!

Barbadian rum pioneer Mount Gay has unveiled its new Exceptionally Aged Collection, introducing two ultra-premium limited-edition expressions that honour more than 320 years of rum-making expertise.

The collection features the Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 15-Year-Old and the highly exclusive Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 25-Year-Old, both crafted, matured, blended and bottled entirely in Barbados. The launch marks a significant milestone for the historic distillery, widely recognised as the world’s oldest continuously operating rum producer, founded in 1703.

A Rare Collection Crafted in Barbados

The new collection showcases Mount Gay’s commitment to transparency and craftsmanship through clearly stated age statements — a first for the distillery. Both expressions have been aged exclusively in ex-American oak bourbon casks and contain no added sugar or flavourings.

Every bottle reflects the unique tropical ageing conditions of Barbados, where the island’s climate accelerates maturation and contributes to the complexity of the final spirit.

Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 25-Year-Old

The standout release is the Exceptionally Aged 25-Year-Old (47% ABV), distilled in 1999 and matured for a quarter of a century in ex-bourbon casks.

Limited to just 2,376 bottles worldwide, this single-batch release offers aromas of vanilla, red fruits and caramel, balanced by notes of citrus and dark chocolate. The palate reveals layers of raisin, cinnamon, toffee, roasted nuts and orange zest before finishing with remarkable elegance and length.

With an RRP of £165, it is expected to appeal to collectors and serious rum connoisseurs seeking exceptionally rare bottlings.

Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 15-Year-Old

Joining the range is the Exceptionally Aged 15-Year-Old (43% ABV), a blend matured for a minimum of 15 years in bourbon barrels under Barbados’ tropical conditions.

Limited to 4,942 bottles globally, the rum offers aromas of grapefruit and buttery pastry alongside flavours of butterscotch, vanilla, caramel and citrus fruits. Its approachable complexity makes it suitable for both experienced collectors and those looking to explore premium aged rum.

Priced at £75, it arrives as an attractive gifting option for Father’s Day and beyond.

A Tribute to Generations of Master Blenders

The collection reflects the work of multiple generations of Mount Gay master blenders. The 25-year-old expression began its journey under former Master Blender Jerry Edwards, before being overseen by Allen Smith and ultimately brought to completion by current Master Blender Trudiann Branker.

Speaking about the launch, Branker said:

“The Exceptionally Aged Collection is a profound tribute to the 320 years of heritage and to the generations of blenders before me who possessed the vision to lay down these incredible rums.”

She added that ageing both expressions exclusively in ex-bourbon casks allowed Mount Gay to preserve the original vision while delivering the intensity and complexity expected from such mature rums.

How to Enjoy the Exceptionally Aged Collection

Mount Gay recommends enjoying both expressions neat or over ice to fully appreciate their depth and complexity. The 25-Year-Old pairs particularly well with roast duck, pork belly and rich desserts, while the 15-Year-Old complements grilled meats, aged cheeses and dark chocolate.

Availability and Where to Buy

The Exceptionally Aged Collection is available through selected specialist retailers including The Whisky Exchange and Masters of Malt, alongside selected independent stockists. The 15-Year-Old is available now, while the 25-Year-Old launches from July.

Why Premium Aged Rum Is Booming

The launch arrives as consumer demand for premium spirits continues to grow. Industry analysts have highlighted increasing interest in super-premium rum, particularly among collectors seeking authentic provenance, long ageing periods and limited-edition releases.

With only a few thousand bottles available worldwide, Mount Gay’s Exceptionally Aged Collection is positioned as one of the most notable premium rum releases of 2026.
