Melanie Martinez’s latest album ‘PORTALS’ has her “resurrected”. Her new alter ego is a pink-skinned, four-eyed fairy creature stuck between Earth and the afterlife and she’s using that identity to create her most intimate songs and sounds and pushing her creative limitations. Martinez goes from her previous album’s alt-pop tones and blends it with dark pop-rock lyrics, forceful percussion rhythms, and vocal filters.

She is not concealing herself behind her baby-pink prosthetics, she’s inviting us inside her world, and the tale she delivers is very beautiful.
Melanie Martinez’s music is stylish, dark, and clever, with a true emotional punch. Martinez debuted with the fantastic 2015 album ‘Cry Baby’, a concept album about a small girl who is kidnapped and eventually kills her captor, which is full of sparkling, self-aware songs like ‘Pacify Her and ‘Dollhouse’. She followed it up with 2019’s ‘K-12’, as well as a feature film of the same name, and established a devoted loyal following in the process.
