As the festive season approaches, London’s iconic Skate at Somerset House returns, bringing with it the magic that has enchanted visitors for decades. From 13th November to 12th January 2025, visitors can skate, drink, and dine near the ice as well as book into a variety of events at the rink taking place throughout the Winter season.
Somerset House has once again transformed its grand neoclassical courtyard of Somerset House into a dazzling ice rink, its majestic Georgian architecture surrounding the space illuminated by festive lights and adorned with a towering 40ft Christmas tree. Nestled in the heart of the city and just a stone’s throw from landmarks such as Trafalgar Square and the Thames, this experience is as much for the tourists to grab a taste of the city as it is for Londoners to relive a much-loved festive tradition.
This year’s Skate at Somerset House is bigger than ever, with an even greater range of unique offerings for its guests to enjoy. Skaters can glide across professional-standard ice while enjoying the sounds of live DJ sets during Skate Lates, presented by Rock Angel. With DJs from the legendary Rinse FM and the vibrant Asian Underground scene, these evenings promise to infuse the rink with electrifying energy. For families and those seeking a more relaxed time, Skate School and Kids’ Skate Club offer coaching sessions, while Chilled Out sessions provide a quieter, inclusive skating environment.
Beyond the ice, visitors can relax in the cosy Chalet restaurant by Jimmy Garcia which will be serving up Alpine-inspired dishes featuring locally sourced British ingredients, perfect for a post-skate feast. New for 2024, the Après Skate evenings blend hearty food, free-flowing drinks, and live music for a communal celebration reminiscent of the best après-ski experiences. For a more casual bite, the Petit Chalet offers gourmet snacks and winter favourites to enjoy rink-side.
The Skate Lounge by Whispering Angel is an ideal spot for friends and families to relax and watch the skaters in comfort. With floor-to-ceiling windows providing stunning rink-side views, visitors can capture picture-perfect moments while enjoying festive cheer. A selection of hot and cold beverages will be available, including festive rosé cocktails, steaming cups of mulled rosé, and icy glasses of Provence Rosé for the ultimate indulgence.
This season’s partners are set to bring exclusive touches to the skating experience. Virgin Atlantic Holidays will host special sessions with unique prizes, while the Shelter Boutique, brought to you by HSBC UK, will offers pre-loved, quality gifts, with proceeds supporting Shelter’s vital work tackling the housing emergency.
Skate at Somerset House is more than just an ice rink; it’s a celebration of the season, a chance to create lasting memories, and a quintessential part of London’s winter magic. With the season already here, make sure you book early to secure your place for this festive London tradition.
Skate at Somerset House will run from 13th November to 12th January 2025, with prices ranging from £15 to £26.50 for adults and £10 to £15 for children (skate hire included).
