London Crowned Time Out’s Best City for Culture in 2026 Ranking

London has officially been named Time Out’s Best City for Culture in 2026, topping the global ranking ahead of Paris, New York, Berlin, and Cape Town. The annual list celebrates the world’s leading cultural destinations, combining feedback from thousands of residents with expert analysis from Time Out editors and contributors across the globe. For London, the recognition reflects the capital’s unmatched concentration of cultural hotspots – from its world-renowned museums and galleries to its unmatched theatre, live music, and festival scene.

According to Time Out, London stood out for both the scale and accessibility of its cultural offering, with many of its most prestigious museums and galleries remaining entirely free to visit. The city’s long-established cultural institutions continue to evolve alongside major new openings, including V&A East and the V&A East Storehouse, while the Museum of London is preparing to reopen later this year in its new Smithfield location.

Beyond its institutions, London’s cultural appeal also stems from the sheer breadth of experiences available year-round, spanning West End productions, grassroots comedy nights, avant-garde jazz, hyper-pop gigs, independent exhibitions, literary events, and community-led creative spaces. The capital received a 95% expert rating from Time Out, while a whopping 99% of surveyed Londoners sung the praises of the city’s arts and culture scene.

The ranking was compiled using responses from more than 24,000 residents across 150 cities worldwide, alongside insights from over 100 Time Out editors and cultural experts. Final scores were calculated using a weighted system made up of 70% local sentiment and 30% expert evaluation. The methodology assessed cities across multiple categories, including quality of arts and culture, affordability, sense of community, heritage and identity, and the strength of each city’s cultural calendar for 2026. Residents were also asked to evaluate specific areas such as museums, galleries, theatre, live music, festivals, comedy, literature, and street art.

Here are the top 10 cities selected in Time Out’s Best Cities for Culture 2026 ranking:
