Multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and vocalist Lola Bates has unveiled her new single “Girl’s Girl,” the first official release from her upcoming debut album Love and Power, set to arrive in spring 2026. The track is available now on all major streaming platforms and marks a bold new chapter for the artist formerly known as Lola Colette.
The single will appear on Love and Power, released via the newly launched label Gravel & Echo Recordings and distributed by Virgin Music Group.
A Dark, Hypnotic Introduction to Love and Power
Built around a steady, hypnotic groove driven by electric bass and drums, “Girl’s Girl” explores the complexities of love, loyalty and power dynamics. The sultry track challenges the idea of what it truly means to be a “girl’s girl,” examining emotional grey areas through the lens of a romantic entanglement involving three people.
Written during the early stages of shaping her debut album, the single showcases Bates experimenting with rhythm and sonic textures while stepping confidently into a darker, more cinematic sound.
“I love a challenge,” Bates explains. “When my producing partner was keen on hearing a ‘steady groove’ track on my debut album, I accepted and wrote ‘Girl’s Girl.’ The groove leaves space for the vocal melody and harmonies to weave like a serpent through the song. It’s dark and sexy, and right off the bat we’re exploring the complexity of Love and Power—love, loyalty, power dynamics, and imperfection.”
A Visual World Built by the Artist Herself
Alongside the single, Bates released an art-forward music video she co-produced with director Chandler Clamp and producer Isabel Mesko. The visual further highlights Bates’ creative vision, reinforcing her role not just as a songwriter and performer but also as a creative director shaping the aesthetic identity of her work.
Inside the Making of Love and Power
Set for release in spring 2026, Love and Power was recorded between Bates’ Laurel Canyon studio and Studio C at the legendary EastWest Studios in Los Angeles.
The album serves as a cinematic coming-of-age exploration, following a young woman discovering her strength and agency in life, love and relationships.
The project features an impressive production team, including:
-
Co-production from Maxwell Joseph
-
Engineering by award-winning producer Robert Carranza, known for work with artists like Jack Johnson and Ozomatli
-
Executive production by renowned composer Tyler Bates, celebrated for projects including the John Wick series and collaborations with Jerry Cantrell
Carranza and Tyler Bates are also co-founders of Gravel & Echo Recordings and will oversee the label’s artist development and A&R as it launches its roster in 2026.
Speaking about the project, Tyler Bates shared:
“A musician, writer, composer and vocalist, Lola’s journey in becoming a unique and authentic artist with the capability to perform at the top of her game—under extreme pressure—is absolutely inspiring.”
A Rising Artist with an Unusual Musical Journey
Raised in the hills of Laurel Canyon, Lola Bates grew up surrounded by music and the legacy of iconic artists such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Tori Amos and PJ Harvey.
A classically trained pianist and multi-instrumentalist, Bates blends pop, rock and folk influences with lush vocal harmonies across her compositions.
Despite being only 24, she has already built an impressive résumé. In 2022, she toured with Jerry Cantrell during the Brighten tour before joining Cantrell’s band as a keyboardist, backup vocalist and acoustic guitarist for his world tour supporting the albums Brighten and I Want Blood.

She later joined emerging pop band Sunday (1994) as a bassist during their supporting and headline tours in 2024 and 2025.
Her musical career started remarkably early. At just 12 years old, Bates performed piano for the soundtrack recording of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 at Capitol Records Studios. Three years later, she recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra as the solo pianist for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at Abbey Road Studios.
Her vocals have also appeared on Cantrell’s Brighten album, the animated series Primal by Genndy Tartakovsky and the CBS series Tracker.
Bates’ performance of Nowhere to Run was featured in John Wick: Chapter 4, further showcasing her ability to blend cinematic storytelling with powerful vocal performances.
What’s Next for Lola Bates?
With Love and Power set for release in spring 2026, Lola Bates is poised to become one of the most compelling emerging artists of the year. The album promises a fully realised artistic vision—combining music, storytelling and visual artistry.
“Girl’s Girl” offers the first glimpse into that world, introducing listeners to the sensual, emotionally fearless soundscape that defines Bates’ debut era.
