West End hotpot Rhum Tavern has teamed up with London Terrariums to launch a unique masterclass series that shakes up botanical craft with the bold flavours of Kraken Spiced Rum. Known for housing London’s largest rum collection, the bar invites guests to explore the liquor, the myth, and modern plant-making in one immersive experience.
The collaboration draws on the dark folklore surrounding Kraken Rum – one which tells the tale of a rum barrel that survived an encounter with the mythical sea creature, later discovered filled with moss and plant life from the depths. Guided by the expert team at London Terrariums, guests will learn the history and science behind these self-sustaining ecosystems, from their Victorian origins to their modern revival. The experience will then see eager explorers build their own miniature living world using curated plants, moss and materials – all inside a signature Kraken rum bottle.
Each ticket includes everything needed to create the terrarium, including tools, plants, and materials, plus a Kraken bottle ecosystem to take home – along with a detailed care guide to keep their new botanical creation thriving long after the class ends. Alongside the planting session, attendees can enjoy two expertly crafted Kraken cocktails from an exclusive menu, including The Black Wake with coffee-roasted Kraken rum and cold brew, Ruby Depths Kraken with cherry and citrus, and Cocoa Tempest, pairing chocolate-washed rum with bright orange soda.
The masterclasses take place at Rhum Tavern, a bar in the heart of London inspired by the golden age of piracy. The 1,750-square-foot venue is designed to mimic a historic pirate ship, with reclaimed timber floors, lantern lighting and a handcrafted resin bar embedded with gold pirate coins. The cocktail menu also indulges the theme, presented on charred parchment paper reminiscent of old treasure maps. At its heart is one of London’s largest and most diverse rum collections, making it the perfect setting for an evening dedicated to the spirit’s history and appreciation.
Kraken Black Spiced Rum itself has developed a cult following since launching in 2010. Distilled in Trinidad and Tobago and blended with spices such as cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and vanilla, the rum is known for its dark colour, bold flavour and striking bottle design. Along with London Terrariums, the collab brings the perfect balance of flavours, arts, and visual to curate a distinctive experience that is an absolute must for rum-lovers across the Capital.
Tickets for the Rhum Tavern x London Terrariums masterclass series are priced at £55 per person and include two Kraken cocktails, all terrarium materials and a surprise gift. Upcoming dates for the masterclasses are 11th March, 15th April, 6th May, and 17th June, with sessions running from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
The events take place at Rhum Tavern, 48 Margaret St, London W1W 8SE. Spaces are limited and advance booking is recommended – be sure to secure your spot right here.
