Rising Canadian singer-songwriter Katie Tupper has officially released her long-awaited debut album, Greyhound, via revered indie label Arts & Crafts. A deeply introspective and emotionally rich body of work, Greyhound explores the instinct to chase fleeting desires, embrace inevitable mistakes, and surrender to love in all its complicated forms — even when you already know how the story ends.
Often compared to Olivia Dean and Charlotte Day Wilson, Tupper’s smoky alto voice weaves together soul, indie, and alternative R&B, grounded with a subtle folky twang. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the album brings the prairie roots of her past into conversation with the expanded worldview she’s developed through years of growth, travel, and creative evolution.
The Meaning Behind Greyhound
Speaking on the album’s central metaphor, Tupper explains how the idea of the greyhound race shaped the project’s emotional core:
“Greyhounds that race on tracks are given these parameters and rabbit decoys to chase that are unreachable… I am often both the greyhound and the decoy — chasing something unreachable and being the thing that cannot be caught.”
That sense of duality — fast and slow, hard and soft, deep and delicate — defines Greyhound. The album feels like a homecoming, blending endless prairie skies and golden fields with the sidewalks and skylines of the cities Tupper has called home in recent years.
Standout Track: “Disappear”
Album highlight “Disappear” arrives alongside an intimate official live video, featuring just Tupper’s voice and a piano. The stripped-back performance showcases the quiet power and emotional restraint at the heart of her songwriting.
On the album version, Jordan Rakei and Rachel Bobbitt lend their vocals to the slow-burning ballad. Tupper describes the song as a reflection on a relationship that moved too fast, saying:
“I didn’t speak up for myself… and as a result I could feel myself quietly shrinking over the course of it.”
Production and Sound
Greyhound was produced alongside Tupper’s touring partners and frequent collaborators Justice Der (Rachel Bobbitt, Dylan Sinclair) and Felix Fox of BADBADNOTGOOD. The collaboration helped push Tupper’s sound into new territory, blending soulful R&B with heavy drum and bass, delicate guitar lines, and lush string arrangements.
“The whole album sound appeared in front of us within our first few sessions,” Tupper shares. “They inspired me to explore a corner of R&B that felt both bold and tender.”
A Record Rooted in Empathy
Reflecting on the album as a whole, Tupper hopes Greyhound offers listeners a sense of calm, understanding, and emotional companionship.
“I want listeners to feel like they’re not alone…I want my music to encourage people to take care of themselves and those around them.”
Rising Momentum and Industry Recognition
Even before releasing her debut album, Tupper’s singles amassed over 4.5 million streams and 40 million views across social platforms. She has received a JUNO Award nomination for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, was named Spotify RADAR Canada Artist of the Month, and featured in Apple Music’s UP NEXT Canada programme.
