Women feel less confident and more stressed out by social media than men, according to new research by Samsung UK and Ireland. Four in 10 (41%) women feel social media makes them feel like a failure if an idea they had isn’t successful, and 30% say that influencers on social media make success look “easy”.
The poll, commissioned by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, surveyed 1,500 aspiring entrepreneurs in the UK revealing that women are more likely to be held back by their own self-belief versus men, when it comes to embracing their entrepreneurial spirit and starting up their own business.
Self-confidence is lower amongst women than men (58% vs 53%). Yet both agree that not having the right technology or knowledge has been the trigger for them to give up on pursuing a business idea (22%).
Women were also more likely to worry about the stress of launching a business (39%) compared to only a quarter of men (26%).
“Transforming a business idea into a reality is never just one leap, it’s many, many steps – some bigger than others. Whether it’s listening, providing advice, or sharing honest experiences, it’s important to encourage and nurture a friend or colleague to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit where possible, as that one idea, could end up being an incredible business reality.”
