Forget that Friday feeling, it’s now about Hump Day Hype as 83% of Brits feel a sense of relief when they reach the middle of the week and 78% feel optimistic about the weekend approaching – with a further two thirds (66%) believing the weekend now begins on a Wednesday.

Mondays and Tuesdays are for saving pennies, getting early nights and being healthy but by mid-week, Gen Z and Millennials are RARING to go, with 70% refusing to live JUST for the weekend.

The rise of the Wednesday weekend kick off is being driven by people working from home for the rest of the week (29%) and changes in dating patterns with Wednesday being the night almost a third (28%) of Gen Zs and millennials are most likely to go on a first date or have a date night (22%).

Changes in socialising habits are also playing a role, with more than a quarter (26%) revealing Hump Day is the evening they are most likely to have friends over for dinner, go to the pub (29%) or cinema (26%). In fact, a quarter (24%) believe that socialising only on a Friday and Saturday night is outdated, as they want to have weekend time to themselves.

Almost a fifth of the nation (19%) tackle a midweek slump by getting adventurous with their ingredients and cooking up a storm for their friends, with many turning to social media for inspiration – in fact, 24% admit they’re more likely to be inspired by foodie influencers on a Wednesday night. A further 14% report that hosting dinner parties mid week is easier thanks to WFH.

In their search for mid-week fun, 80% of Brits enjoy spontaneous shopping with over a quarter (26%)  heading to the supermarket to buy interesting ingredients to be more adventurous with their evening meal. Almost a quarter (24%) are bored of their pre-made work lunches by mid week and over a fifth (21%) are setting unrealistic food ambitions on a Sunday that they can’t keep up with by Wednesday.

With 78% of Gen Z and Millennial Brits stating they are more likely to try and bag a bargain on a Wednesday, as they find themselves counting the pennies ahead of the weekend and three quarters of Brits (75%) say they are often unable to indulge their mid-week adventurous spirit due to costliness, Just Eat have introduced Half Price Wednesdays, for all the midweek needs.
