James Blunt & winner Iam Tongi sing tearjerker ‘Monsters’

 

In his first audition, 18-year-old Hawaiian finalist Iam Tongi pulled at global heartstrings with his acoustic cover of James’ Blunt’s ‘Monsters’ – a tribute to Tongi’s late father who supported his singing career.  Tongi got the opportunity to join James Blunt on stage for an emotional duet which moved the room to tears.

 

Thigh-high Kylie stuns in black satin as dancers pay homage to iconic video

 

Australian songstress Kylie Minogue performed “Padam Padam” from her upcoming album ‘Tension’ arriving in September. Top 12 finalist Nutsa Buzaladze matched Kylie in daring leather thigh-high boots singing “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”. The divas were  surrounded by visor-covered dancers – a throwback to Minogue’s original music video.

 

3.90’s Throwback: TLC bring a wave of nostalgia by singing a medley of their smash hits 

 

Two thirds of R&B sensation TLC sang a medley of their biggest hits including “No Scrubs”, “Creep” and “Waterfalls” alongside finalist Lucy Love. The trio’s rich, layered harmonies were joined by a full brass band in the ultimate 90’s throwback.

Ellie Goulding ‘burns’ the stage in a dazzling midnight blue one-piece

 

Homegrown Ellie Goulding , previewed her latest single ‘Miracle’ in a sparkling, hooded  one-piece. Shortly she was joined by runner up and fan-favourite Tyson Venegas who sang a rendition of her smash hit ‘Burn’. In true American Idol fashion, the stage quickly came alight as huge flames danced with the pair.

 

“Forever yours, faithfully” runner up Megan Danielle smashes the Journey classic.

 

20-year-old Georgian Megan Danielle showcased her vocal chops with an orchestral cover of Journey’s ‘Faithfully’ that arguably could rival Ms Dolly Parton herself. Later in the show, Megan has a full-circle moment with her idol Grammy-Award winner Lauren Daigle who originally sang Daigle’s record ‘You Say’ in her audition delighting both judges and fans.

Lionel performs his sparkling 70’s hit “Sail On” with the Top 12 finalists

 

“Sail on, sugar”, Lionel Ritchie gave the idols a masterclass in commanding a stage, with a feel-good performance of “Sail On” (1979) by the Commodores. The top 12 finalists provided flawless backing vocals for the 73-year old legend.

Fan-favourite We Ani goes toe-to-toe with vocal powerhouse Jazmine Sullivan 

 

We Ani just missed out on being included in the top three to the anger and dismay of many American idol fans. The ‘robbed’ vocalist was still able to perform Jazmine Sullivan’s hit “Bust Your Windows” (2008). Sullivan is a double-Grammy artist known for her summoning, powerhouse vocals and We Ani certainly held her own.

Stripped back: Katy Perry and her protege wow in simple shirt and jean combo  

 

Katy Perry and runner up Haven Madison pulled together a seamless mash-up of their original heartbreak ballads “By The Grace Of God” (2013) and “Still Need You”. Katy’s track reflects on a darker period in her life, battling depression following her split withex-husband Russell Brand. The pop star was in rare form, barefoot and cross-legged in a white, striped shirt and jeans.

Let Luke Bryan and Colin Stough sweetly serenade you  

 

Country star and judge Luke Bryan introduced his latest single “But I Got A Beer In My Hand” before partnering up with his protege, runner-up Colin Stough. The crooners did a swoon-worthy cover of “Slow Hand” a 1981 classic by The Pointer Sisters, reimagined as a country serenade.

“Give me everything, tonight” Pitbull opens the show with the Top 12 finalists

 

Miami-bred rapper Pitbull opened the season’s grand finale with Lil Jon with his Kriss-Kross sampled “Jumpin”. Shortly after the top 12 finalists rejoined the stage singing “Give Me Everything” (2011) to set the tone for the night.
