HISTORY HIT AND UBISOFT LAUNCH ‘SAIL LIKE A PIRATE’ DOCUMENTARY AHEAD OF ASSASSIN’S CREED BLACK FLAG RESYNCED!

History fans and gamers alike are set to embark on a high-seas adventure as History Hit and Ubisoft have announced the launch of Sail Like a Pirate, a brand-new documentary inspired by the world of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Premiering on 18 June 2026 via the official Assassin’s Creed YouTube channel, the documentary sees historian and broadcaster Dan Snow joined by double Olympic sailing champion Ruggero Tita as they experience life aboard a traditional tall ship in the English Channel.

The project arrives just weeks before the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft’s modern remake of the beloved 2013 pirate adventure, which launches on 9 July 2026.

Dan Snow Explores the Reality Behind Pirate Legends

Filmed aboard the Royal Navy Cadet vessel TS Royalist during September 2025, Sail Like a Pirate takes viewers beyond the romanticised image of pirates often portrayed in popular culture.

Instead, the documentary focuses on the harsh realities of life at sea during the Golden Age of Piracy. Through practical sailing challenges, Snow and Tita experience the teamwork, discipline, leadership and resilience needed to survive aboard a sailing vessel centuries ago.

Speaking about the project, Dan Snow explained that the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag resonated with players because sailing was central to the experience rather than simply serving as a backdrop.

“Millions of players fell in love with the game because it captured the freedom, danger and adventure of life at sea in a way few others have managed,” said Snow.

He added that the documentary offers an opportunity to explore the historical reality behind the fantasy and demonstrate how entertainment can inspire audiences to discover genuine history.

Why Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Still Matters

Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remains one of the most celebrated entries in Ubisoft’s long-running franchise.

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been rebuilt using Ubisoft’s latest technology while preserving the iconic pirate adventure that made the original a fan favourite. The remake introduces upgraded visuals, enhanced gameplay systems and additional content while retaining Edward Kenway’s legendary journey across the Caribbean.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has sold more than 230 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video game series in history.

A Growing Partnership Between History Hit and Ubisoft

Sail Like a Pirate is the latest collaboration between History Hit and Ubisoft as part of a wider multi-year co-production agreement that began in 2024.

The partnership aims to connect modern audiences with the real historical events, locations and cultures that inspire Ubisoft’s games. Previous projects have included the successful Echoes of History podcast, which explores the historical context behind various Assassin’s Creed titles.

By combining Ubisoft’s globally recognised gaming franchises with History Hit’s expertise in accessible storytelling, both organisations hope to bring history to new audiences through digital-first content.

History Hit Continues to Expand Its Digital Reach

Founded by Dan Snow and now part of Little Dot Studios, History Hit has become one of the UK’s leading history-focused media networks.

The platform offers more than 750 documentaries and original films through its streaming service, alongside a portfolio of successful podcasts including Dan Snow’s History Hit, Betwixt the Sheets, American History Hit and Echoes of History.

The company has also seen significant growth across YouTube and social media, attracting millions of followers and viewers worldwide.

Where to Watch Sail Like a Pirate

Sail Like a Pirate premieres on 18 June 2026 on the official Assassin’s Creed YouTube channel.

As anticipation builds for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the documentary offers fans a fascinating glimpse into the real-world history that inspired one of gaming’s most iconic pirate adventures.
