One of Muskoka’s most talked-about lakeside retreats is set to welcome a limited number of Airbnb guests this autumn, offering fans the chance to experience Gordon Bay Cottage for themselves.
If you’ve been dreaming of escaping to the great outdoors, Airbnb has just unveiled a seriously tempting getaway.
Gordon Bay Cottage, an iconic lakeside retreat in Muskoka, Canada, is officially opening its doors to a select number of guests this autumn. The picturesque property became an unexpected star of one of the summer’s most talked-about series, helping put the already popular Ontario destination firmly back on the pop culture map.
Now, fans will have the opportunity to experience the cottage in real life, with three special stays available to book exclusively through Airbnb.
A Historic Muskoka Retreat
Gordon Bay Cottage is more than just a beautiful lakeside escape. The property dates back to 1902, when it was originally built as a summer hotel and lodge for hunters and fishermen.
Much of the original structure remains intact, giving the cottage plenty of historic character. From its century-old windows and original hardware to its classic Muskoka-style screened porch, the property combines its heritage with everything you could want from a modern countryside escape.
Guests staying at Gordon Bay Cottage will have the entire property to themselves, including its private dock overlooking the water.
According to Airbnb host Jayne McCaw, the cottage has always been about slowing down and enjoying the surroundings.
“People come here to slow down and escape the hustle of everyday life,” McCaw said, adding that she is looking forward to welcoming the first Airbnb guests and giving them the chance to experience the sights and sounds of cottage country.
Muskoka Is Having a Major Moment
Muskoka has long been associated with spectacular lakes, secluded cottages and celebrity summer escapes, but the Canadian destination is currently enjoying a fresh wave of attention.
According to Airbnb, searches among UK guests for stays in Muskoka have increased by 138% for autumn, highlighting growing interest in Ontario’s famous Cottage Country.
The region’s combination of peaceful lakeside scenery, outdoor adventures and charming towns makes it an increasingly appealing destination for travellers looking to swap busy city life for something a little slower.
And Gordon Bay Cottage certainly offers plenty of opportunities to do exactly that.
What Can Guests Expect at Gordon Bay Cottage?
The cottage has been designed around making the most of its spectacular natural surroundings.
Original windows throughout the property frame views of the lake, while the expansive 800-square-foot screened porch provides a perfect spot for taking in the scenery.
Guests can start the morning with a swim from the private dock, head out onto the water by canoe, kayak or paddleboard, or simply settle into the porch for a slower start to the day.
There is also plenty of local wildlife to look out for, with loons calling across the lake and chipmunks darting through the surrounding trees.
As evening arrives, guests can gather around the living room fireplace before heading outside to take in Muskoka’s famously clear night skies.
For those who aren’t quite ready to completely disconnect, Wi-Fi is available too – although the cottage’s surroundings might make it difficult to keep looking at a screen.
Explore Port Carling
While Gordon Bay Cottage offers plenty to keep guests occupied, those wanting to explore beyond the property can head to nearby Port Carling.
The charming Muskoka town offers a selection of local restaurants and coffee shops, alongside waterfront views that make it an ideal place to spend an afternoon.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet morning by the lake, an afternoon adventure on the water or an evening beneath the stars, the cottage provides a classic taste of Ontario’s Cottage Country.
