A New Way to Experience Portraiture in London
Running as a 15-minute immersive journey included in standard admission, Stories – Brought to Life invites visitors into an intimate, cinematic space where some of history’s most recognisable faces step beyond the frame.
The experience explores the lives and legacies of cultural figures including:
- Queen Elizabeth II
- Nelson Mandela
- William Shakespeare
- Amy Winehouse
- Malala Yousafzai
Through immersive projection and sound design, each portrait becomes a gateway into the personal stories behind the sitters—bringing historical and cultural narratives to life in a way that feels immediate and emotionally resonant.
Collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery
The project has been developed in close collaboration with expert curators from the National Portrait Gallery, ensuring each story is told with authenticity and historical integrity.
By combining archival photography, recorded speeches, original animation, and curated media, FRAMELESS bridges traditional portraiture with contemporary storytelling techniques.

A Human Connection to Iconic Figures
“Stories – Brought to Life” highlights the emotional power of portraiture—reminding audiences that behind every image is a lived experience shaped by creativity, leadership, struggle, and legacy.
The experience has also received praise from musician and former art teacher Ricky Wilson, frontman of Kaiser Chiefs, who attended a preview event.
He said:
“Portraiture has always been my favourite part of the art world… everything begins with a face, which is why portraiture feels so powerful and universally accessible. Stories – Brought to Life at FRAMELESS is such a brilliant gateway into arts and culture for new audiences.”
Limited-Time Residency in London
The immersive experience is open now and runs until 12 September at FRAMELESS London. Entry is included with all standard tickets while the Blank Canvas gallery is open to the public.
Visitors can expect a seamless blend of storytelling, visual art, and digital innovation designed to bring audiences closer than ever to some of the world’s most influential figures.
