Fantasy Football Week 2: Who to Add? Who to Drop?

The 2023 London NFL Game between Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, England on 8th November 2023.

Week 1 of the NFL is done and in the books. There will be many shifts with fantasy teams, dropping players, adding players, and, for some unlucky people, changing your entire team. It is essential to keep on top of your team to ensure that you are doing your best and keep winning or, in some cases, get your first win. Here is an update on whom you should add, drop, and monitor in weeks to come.

Players You Should Add for Week 2

If these players are available in your fantasy league, run to add them before anyone else does. The players will help you get closer to that win for Week 2.

Jordan Mason, Running Back, 49ers: Mason had an explosive Week 1 and showed he can be that guy for the 49ers while McCaffrey is out. The 49ers will depend on Mason, with McCaffrey still being questionable next week. Try getting Mason before someone in your league gets him because he will put up those points. With the impressive win, the 49ers will not stop using Mason’s talents.

Isaiah Likely, Tight End, Ravens: In Week 1, Likely had an explosive game against the Chiefs. Doing so well against an amazing defense, imagine Likely against other teams. Mark Andrews’ injury last season led to Likely taking on a larger role, but now that Andrews is back, Likely refuses to step down from his position. He came close to being the hero in his game, but having his toe step out of bounds ruined that opportunity for him. Within Baltimore’s offense, there is room for two tight ends, and there is a question of whether Likely will continue his impressive run. I would add him because the points he put up for Week 1 were unreal.

Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Buccaneers: Mayfield surprised everyone with his performance in Week 1. Mayfield would be an excellent option to have on your team as the starting quarterback or as a backup. Playing the Lions next, Mayfield has a good chance of a repeat of an amazing week. He will put up many points throughout the season. Mayfield has the weapon, Mike Evans, who will catch his throw and remain his main target, ensuring that Mayfield will get points.

Chargers Defense: With the Chargers playing the Panthers next week, it is the time to pick up the Chargers defense. Points are almost guaranteed when teams play against the Panthers. I would hurry and get the Chargers defense before anyone else thinks of this.

Players to be on the Watchlist

The first week does not always show the whole story, so here is a watchlist of people you should wait to cut but keep your eye on. If you have these players, panic is not necessary yet, but flags should be raised, and you should be vigilant.

Drake London, Wide Receiver, Falcons: London’s lack of performance for Week 1 was lackluster, to say the least. Maybe London is getting back on schedule with the long off-season, but London had better start showing out soon, or he would have to be dropped by fantasy teams everywhere.

Marvin Harrison, Wide Receiver, Cardinals: Harrison had a debut that many were excited about. Unfortunately, he left everyone wanting more or at least something. Harrison did nothing for his first game, but we must remember that NFL games are different from college, and maybe Harrison needs time to get into the league. Hopefully, that will be quick.

Mark Andrews, Tight End, Ravens: Andrews did not have the first game many expected from him since he was coming off a long injury. Getting overshadowed by Likely in the first game is not something to panic over if he is in your fantasy. I would keep your eye on him but not drop him yet.

Deshaun Watson, Quarterback, Browns: Watson had an awful loss served to him by the Cowboys. Watson had little to no plays during Week 1. He needs to get his act together overall. I wish there was more to say, but his dull performance left the fans wanting more.

Cole Kmet, Tight End, Bears: Kmet had one reception against the Titans. He played less than half the snaps of the game. This might be the new Bears’ offense of allowing the other Tight End, Gerald Evertt, to get more touches. If this offense continues to share the tight end position, Kmet might have to be cut from fantasy teams in the future. Everyone is hoping that his Week 1 performance

Players You Should Drop for Week 2

Drops this soon may seem a little questionable since there has only been one game so far. However, I feel confident with one definite drop that should be done sooner rather than later for the sake of your fantasy team.

Daniel Jones, Quarterback, Giants: If you have the displeasure of having Jones on your fantasy team, drop him now. Jones has shown no potential for improving this season. His lack of points in Week 1 seems like a sign to all, please drop him. There are so many other quarterbacks that you could have on your team rather than Jones. Other quarterbacks will get you some points, the same cannot be said for Jones.
